What if you made whole wafer chips out of a large number of connected components, then cut the wafers up the way you would a normal one.
you could then "reassemble" the wafer from the working componints. I think this would work well for RAM type applications, and parrallel chips, etc. I don't know how posible it would be to "reassemble" the chips though... _ "Subtle mind control? Why do all these HTML buttons say 'Submit' ?"
um, in and out are always seperate, right? I really doubt that anyone would be left without the 2400bps they need to send Http requests, what they should do is set proritys for people, so that reqests to port 80 get prority or somthing, or somthing, I don't know, there is probably a better way to do this... _ "Subtle mind control? 15k, off a HARD DRIVE!!! older HDs might be slow, but that's rediculis. you cold probably get more bandwith off a floppy drive.

That's the ultimate question.. Microsoft may have a performance advantage (gasp!) right now.. but we all know how quickly open source moves forward, and how quickly bugs are fixed. Even Microsoft can't beat the distributed efforts of tens of thousands of developers working in concert. No corporation on the planet can.
I don't know about that... Linux has thosands of average hackers working in there spare time Microsoft has hundreds of really good coders working full time I think that the two are pretty evenly matched, at least in terms of what they *can* produce.

I think what your refering to was a deal for a circut board for Atari.
Atari told Jobs that he would get $4000, $7000 if he used less then 40 chips.
Jobs told woz that he would get $500 (or somthing like that, the $ amouts I'm not sure of, but there was about an order of magnintude diffrence) if the board was less then 36 chips, $700. Woz spent night after night optimizing the board, but he could only get it to somthing like 38 chips.
Woz got $250, jobs got $6750
Atari could not figure out how the f*sk the board worked, and had to design another one:)

Since whever you have a number greater then 2.5*10^x, such as 2.5, 25.250, etc
