Market share growth is also a twisted measurement in that starting from zero (or one) will give much bigger growth figures (as a percentage) than starting from, say, 100 million.
Yes, there are numbers involved, but there is still plenty of room for analysis.
"This code is released as public domain software. No copyrights are asserted and are specifically disavowed."
That seems much more free than any version of the GPL, and you rather keenly avoid problems with copyright 'restrictions'. It may not pass muster with an attorney, but I guarantee it's easier for the jury to understand.
Negotiating local news/weather/traffic as well as professional and semi-pro (college) sports is the only way to make a dent in this market. Microsoft's problem is that they opened their collective mouth. If you are negotiating with local affiliates and NFL/NBA/NCAA/etc. then STFU until it is a done deal.
It would, however, create a substantial minority. Given how those with cluster B disorders act, it would not in any way be surprising to find that the 60% would kowtow to the 40%.
Same comments as always (it'll break, Apple what!!!???, I had a TI-83, etc.) and as usual, nobody links to Clifford Stoll's book that pretty much covered the topic of tech in the classroom years ago.
Thanks for the linkbait slashdot. Taco may be gone, but you're just as classy as ever.
I am, and always have. Trust me, to get those salaries, you either live with an insane cost of living (think San Francisco burbs, NYC burbs), an insane commute (Hagertucky, Winchester, La Plata), or live in gangland (PGC). Or some combination thereof.
Oh, and you get the joy of working for the government or a contractor. Which, given the security, isn't a bad thing right about now.
While greasy Unix neckbeards may smear grease everywhere their Cheetos encrusted fingers touch, some of us are familiar with the rudiments of personal hygiene and don't leave a slime trail reminiscent of a snail. In other news, that thing you found between your toes? NOT a good between meal snack, hacker opinions to the contrary.

What I'm talking about is empathy. He's saying that he broke into computer systems, stole some information and terrorized them, but he didn't make a profit on it so it's ethically okay. That's bullshit. It's amoral. It's a complete lack of empathy, and a telling sign of a sociopath.
This is slashdot. Most of these basement dwelling turds wouldn't know empathy if it jumped up and cried on their collective shoulders. I blame the beatings and wedgies they got in their youth. You'll never convince them. (FWIW, seeing the answer to your question was the only reason I even clicked on this story.)

Wish I hadn't commented prior to reading this. Deserves several of my mod points.
I guess that eventually one half of the population will be watching the other half...
Or one half of each person will be watching the other half. Read A Scanner Darkly . There was a movie too, but I haven't seen it.
Well, half of you hasn't seen it, at any rate...
If he keeps dining like this, it won't take long for him to be pushing up daisies.
Welcome to the ocean of piss.
Isn't that the name of Murderface's solo project?

After all, they have a girl friend.

Off topic, why aren't I living in Maryland?

when I was in high school in the 90's they still had math books from the 70's
I didn't realize that highschool-level mathematics changed so dramatically since the 1970's
All I had was this newfangled 'Principia Mathematica', and it seemed just fine for me.
One trick is that 100 years ago, if Johnny was too fucking stupid to get book learning, he'd just stay at home, pulling a plow.
Well, Microsoft has been doing tablet PCs since Windows 3.0 so they do have some experience...
Doing it wrong for 20 years is nothing to brag about.

People who have nothing better to do than criticize some company's proposed building needs to get a life.
I dunno, I think the 'architecture critic' serves as a poster child for the death of print media. BTW, isn't the guy married to a telephone sanitizer?
I don't have anything to contribute to this. I still use single blade disposable razors instead of laser hair removal.
Heck, with one of these it should be so easy a caveman could do it.
There's a reason only about a dozen Fortune 500 companies have female CEOs, and almost none of them are in tech.

And those "before iPad" tablets were obviously superior, having functionality put before design.
Of course, that's why they sold so well.
And Windows is by far the best selling operating system, so it must be superior too.
It is, from a certain point of view.
Yeah, just what Samsung wants other OEM's to know: we are willing to hold your parts hostage if we are in competition in the marketplace.
