Very interesting comments. I read a book a while back on "free market economies", and I was very intrigued by the ideas. I totaly agree with you that this way of "editing" is a lot more efficient that you old find me some "qualified" editor method. The only thing I disagree with is that the transaction has to be monetary. Why? Probably mainly due to the disparity in wealth distribution in the world. Can you imagine a world where only "us" americans with money were the only ones able to "edit" the material? Seems to me that that would restrict the power of the free market you talk about. It would be very interesting to create an environment where the "market" actually set the value of things. Slasdot, Wikipedia and others have, to some extend, tried that. Has it work? Well, it is better than nothing, but it isn't perfect either. One thing that it has accomplish is keeping it $free$. I'm expecting, and hoping smart people like yourself, will help us get there.
Can you imagine a system where the free market actually decided how valuable your input is? Without charging you money (because most people don't have that), but something that is just as valuable to you (maybe time?).
Oh boy.... It is obvious how bad this machine translations are if you are proficient in both languagues.
From that site:
(Original) English text: Unfortunately, one of the realities of being a real live teacher is that I can't take time to write fun emails to everyone anymore. At least not now. If this week is like last week, I'm staring at +70 hours of time at school. (Last week is, by the way, the last time I'm ever counting my hours.) So, the anecdotes from Miss Harlow will have to wait, BUT, I want you to know my new address and number. My house is only 15-20 minutes from I-81, so if you ever are driving through on your way north or south, PLEASE stop by!
(Which is completely terrible spanish).
Spanish translation back to English: Unfortunately, one of the realities of is a teacher I live true is that I cannot take amusing time to write them e-mails to all already. At least not now. Thus, the anecdotes of Young lady Harlow will have to expect, BUT, I want that you know my direction and the new number. Most women talk with their car guest way more than I do through a cell phone. So, what's the difference again between talking on a cell phone and talking with a friend sitting by you? Oh, I see... you are more likely to turn your eyes away from the road with the friend in the next seat over... wait... hmmm... I guess I'll drive by myself from now on.
In what sense? Well, in the very sense that while trying to destroy FF, what he actually did was provide us with some good insight into some things that need to be addressed. The, the OSS is not stronger because it has 'strong finished products', but rather because it's way of developing software is stronger. Sure, we aren't "there" yet (where ever "there" happens to mean), but you can see under the hood and tell me exactly were YOU think we need improvement. Instead of taking this as a troll, which is probably was intended to be, let's just use it as we would use any other user comment. Fix those issues and we end up with a much stronger app.
A couple days ago (I believe it was Thursday last week) attempted to send an email to a hotmail account from gmail. This email got put in the 'junk mail' folder of this person. We did it again just for kicks... and yeap.
I was very disappointed, and I thought that it might have just been a fluke, but I guess I was not the only one to notice.
I have read a lot of replies here that clain the post was a fluke... I think they didn't have a change to see it themselves.
I know I'm going to get some slack for this, but here it goes.
I am a strong user of OS software. I love it's quality. I love how it is made. I am a TRUE(tm) believer that knoledge is one of those things that no human can (or should) own.
On the last paragraph of the article, it reads: "...and that illegally downloading movies is a blow to creativity, not corporate might."
Anyway, my point is, and I guess is not the first time this is asked, how do you feed the creative people? The people that work on the mines of knowledge (which we all want knowledge to be free). If all I did was always just free for everyone to use how do I eat? Do we just create and then hope for the eventual $suport$ that some user decides to send?
I'm pretty much the only guy who likes/uses OS software, because most of the other guys feel that there should be some type of IP. How do you argue agaist it?
I totally agree with you.
In my school I was taught Java for my "Fundamentals of Programming" class. It was not hard at all, untill I had to take a "Data Structures" class (all in C++) and had to learn C on my own. I REALLY wished it had been the other way around. After learning C, I've been able to learn other programming languages with out any problem (even some non-OO languages).
Cheers.

All quite amusing, if you ask me.

Long live OSS

You missed the point completely. The post is about how to ORGANIZE your data, not what client you use to view it. Cheeze some people...

Yeap, it's happened before
