  1. They need to push it as a good WinNT workstation. on Compaq sees Linux as selling Alpha chips · · Score: 1
True, there wheres the big volumes and money is, in the Windows NT workstation/server market segment. Dont get me wrong on this, I'm a 100% unix guy, but these are the hard facts. If they want to stay alive they need to drop the prices and push it as cheap Windows NT workstaion alternative. To sell huge amounts of Alpha boxes they need to push it as a good alternative to Intel workstation. And that brings the prices on the motherboards and chips down so we homeusers can aford to buy a Alpha too. "volume", "cheap" and "advertising" is the key words here.

  2. Digital Unix runs 25% faster than Linux on Alpha. on Compaq sees Linux as selling Alpha chips · · Score: 0
Digital Unix runs around 25% faster than Linux on the same hardware depending on the job, and Digital Unix CC compiler produces much faster and more optimized code than GCC. So there is reasons for companys and universities to run DU instead of Linux, especialy if you do heavy computing, like research, simulution, math, etc.
