I'm sure the crew members under duress aren't very concerned about potential felony charges upon landing if they open the doors. I'm sure they are trying to balance the odds of dying immediately if they refuse to open the doors and in short order if they do. I'm sure landing and being arrested for criminal charges would be a near-best case outcome.
maybe they'll end up charging you based on how long you want to wait in line. once people are sorted into 15 mins / 30 mins / 1 hr lines, they'll dynamically reallocate resources to make sure all lines move as planned.
Oh yeah, they can/will also charge depending by destination. If you're flying SF->LA and miss you're flight, you're out $100, but if you're flying SF->Sydney and miss your flight, that's $1000 at least. I imagine you would be willing to pay a lot more to make sure you caught your flight!
Nice little flight you got here... it would be a shame if anything... happened to it.
Agreed I corrected myself in a later post I did the speedtest and it was 31.65 down 4.5 up last night. But I especially don't have need for up bandwidth. the only high bandwidth (going up) thing I could do is VOIP / facetime, and both of those seem designed to fit in well withing 4.5 up. perhaps if my housefold wnated to do multiple voips / facetimes at once...
The proof is in the pudding I guess. some killer things won't be unleashed until not just I have 100+, but everybody has 100+. Therefore we should be able to look at nations like SKOREA, where everybody is super fast, and see some really cool things that they have that we don't have. Does anybody have ideas of what these super cool thigns are?
bussted, ran the speed test and will restate. Just tested at 31.66mbps down and 4.22mpbs up. but the only thing I upload are requests for netflix and websites to send me more info, along with the occasional email, still $30/mo, charter cable pasadena ca.
the point is, I'm reasonably happy with the price and happy with the speed. I don't see any benefits of investing in gigabit fiber and I'm not going to advocate spending money there. I think there IS benefit in getting people to 5+mbps, cuz that unlocks all the netflix etc.
+1 truth. there's no super fast broadband because there's no pressing need for super fast broadband. I pay $30/mo for 30 up/30 down. Can't think of a reason why I would want anything more, and I'm certainly not willing to pay for it.
The does will have the chance to defend themselves, and the troll will have to spend cubic yards of money to make a case, or give up and go home.
An evocative image, so I was driven to do the math. It's not necessarily a lot of money! A cubic yard of US pennies is worth USD $5233.09. I'm assuming you stack them in rolls so they're touching triangularly like bowling pins, not square like beer bottles. You can squeeze in ~16% more this way. Note this has a volume of 1 cubic yard, but wouldn't be exactly cubical.
wow, really? link? I guess it could be a genius bar service. you could probably watch them do it, or afterwards you could peer into the camera hole and confirm that it's an empty socket.
all macbooks have the wifi and bluetooth on a small card. you can open the bottom and pull out the card. the camera, I don't know. drill it out? probably wouldn't crack the glass.
I too am thinking of how to carry my passwords with me. My memory isn't as great. At home I have 1password running in the browser and in the menu bar at the top of the screen. But when I'm away from home i'm often lost. Before I was using the same password everywhere but am trying to move away from that because it is bad habit.
I have 1 password installed on my phone, so presumably when I want to enter a pwd on a website I could take out my phone, open the app, look up the pwd, and manually type it in. But I'm looking for a really automated way. for example, having a pwd manager installed on a small USB thing on my keychain, then plugging it in and having all my pwds.
any advice on how i could do this? the best solution is super clean and transparent, one step away from having the plugin installed in the browser. I was literally just looking the internet for it.
the attacker can gain the same access that the Android built in web browser has That doesn't sound that bad on the face of it
FTFA:
The code exploits a critical bug in Android's WebView programming interface that was disclosed 14 months ago. The security hole typically gives attackers remote access to a phone's camera and file system and in some cases also exposes other resources, such as geographic location data, SD card contents, and address books.
The easiest way to exploit the bug is to lure a vulnerable user to a booby-trapped webpage. Within seconds, the site operator will obtain a remote shell window that has access to the phone's file system and camera. In some cases, the exploit can also be triggered by performing a man-in-the-middle attack while the victim is on an unsecured Wi-Fi network.
you're right, i guess I'm a fuckhead because I don't appreciate what you're saying. what do you mean about for the sake of freedom? Do you mean like in a political way? not trolling, please tell me more..
people think when they're evaluating technology that they're choosing between buying it today and not buying it. In fact, you're choosing to buy it today or buy it at some point in the future. would you rather spend $1500 today to buy an innovative device with limited use, or would you prefer to spend $1500 in 3 years to buy the same device except it has many uses?
there's no right answer, it will vary from person to person.
The app makes money by violating your security and privacy in all sorts of ways. This is how they can offer a free app.
Google wants the developers to be successful when offering free apps because it's good for their android ecosystem. So they look the other way when developers violate their users' security and privacy.
This is why they won't allow you to approve or deny specific permissions or allow you to go back to shut off different permissions after installation.
... so that you can buy or try any app just like you would download apps for linux distros, without having to register or give an app access to all my stored info? Why does a calculator app need to access my contact list or location data? Will the results vary based on my contacts or location?
why don't you just buy a calculator app that doesn't require this access? there are hundreds. or do you always have to have the new shiny?
The irrational decision was to get locked in to iOS in the first place, and to then not switch to a Nexus 5 which is better than the current iPhone but half the price so you can re-buy all the locked-in apps anyway.
I don't understand the price arguments. iPhone is basically the same price as other premium phones. It's more expensive than cheapo crappy Android 2.3 phones. It's true that there's no cheapo crappy iphone, so if you want a cheapo crappy phone you can't get an iphone.
Also, unless you own a Mac you need to install iTunes to sync media from your computers, which is a giant steaming turd and reason enough on its own to switch.
true, for music and movies you need iTunes. but notably you never need to plug your phone into your computer anymore. It's all done "in the cloud" (tm). Your backup syncs online, your apps sync online. The songs on your computer upload to the cloud (tm), then drop down to your phone. this is nice because I used to go months without plugging my phone into my computer.
even better than switching shower heads, is to get one of those OSH or Home Depot buckets and put it in the shower. It will capture a lot of water that will go down the drain anyway, and you can use this to water plants.
the average isn't trending down because the sample size of this test is much smaller than the total N. it was just a demo. a drop in the bucket, so to speak.
a good way to focus on what people need is to keep raising the prices little by little. people will make good choices about the best use of water. trust me, we're a long way from going back to chamber pots. we can start by cutting back on lush green lawns. we live in a desert climate, for goodness sake! look around, do you see any natural parks with this kind of field?
Keeping the flight deck doors secured (with felony criminal charges to await any crew that opens them under duress) and having a flight full of passengers ready to beat the carp out of any would-be hijackers are enough to keep the flight reasonably safe.
I'm sure the crew members under duress aren't very concerned about potential felony charges upon landing if they open the doors. I'm sure they are trying to balance the odds of dying immediately if they refuse to open the doors and in short order if they do. I'm sure landing and being arrested for criminal charges would be a near-best case outcome.
true. it will all become just another tax.
maybe they'll end up charging you based on how long you want to wait in line. once people are sorted into 15 mins / 30 mins / 1 hr lines, they'll dynamically reallocate resources to make sure all lines move as planned.

I think a walk-and-screen system would work well, but only if it outlined peoples' bones in blue and highlighted any contraband items in red.

more info please. I got the email yesterday, but I didn't see how it related to the NSA.
thanks.

I was going to comment on the nature of the study, but your sig captures it better.

I would say this is a big deal.
you're right, i guess I'm a fuckhead because I don't appreciate what you're saying. what do you mean about for the sake of freedom? Do you mean like in a political way? not trolling, please tell me more..
That's because, despite what the idiots on Slashdot assert, the point isn't video. It's having a convenient screen always in view.
then why does it have a camera? if it didn't have a camera, this would solve 95% of the problems people have with the technology.
people think when they're evaluating technology that they're choosing between buying it today and not buying it. Dude I think you're showering wrong. It's a place to bathe not 2girls 1 cup. What is your job if you need to take these kind of showers?
You don't have glass you're just a douchebag. Stop being a douchebag.

Agreed about crappy shower heads. See my suggestion here, it's free WRT shower quality. And free in general! http://news.slashdot.org/comme...
