It's obvious that all you have read IS the subject. She was explaining how Microsoft got their monopoly today because of the stupidity of non-tech companies that fell for the marketing hype and deployed MS.
no biggie - I get 552Mhz from my Celeron 366s. Am I a hoax too? The bus speed isn't always _exactly_ 133Mhz or 100Mhz. Mine runs at around 100.4xx , and changes all the time. with a multiplier this big, what's wrong with getting a 4-5mhz extra?
Note that they also make absolutely no mention of any method of cooling this thing.
Did you read the article?
They used the ASETEK Vapochill system to cool down the coppermine.
Now, since the multipliers are locked on Coppermine processors, there's no way that these people could get a 7.5 multipler. The highest is a "7" with a front-side bus of 100 mhz
Intel engineering samples are not multiplier-locked. I guess we can throw your "simple facts" table from Tom's right out the window.
it'd be wise to check the facts first.
I agree. Do you plan on following your own advice though?
Why are there always psuedo "purists" out there who twist and churn the open source definition to suit their obligatory flame/whine against software companies that open up their sources? In fact, Carmack wanted to have the Quake3 engine developed open-source, but other founders won't let him (learned from the already-defunct planetcrap.com)
From what I heard, Game Boy Colors with backlight is coming out this fall... of course, it's probably going to eat batteries much quicker and be a lot more bulkier - which is why I'm satisfied with my non-backlight game boy right now:)
Why is everyone so uptight about an online poll? Ever since Hank the Angry, Drunken Dwarf was voted one of the most beautiful people in the world, I thought everybody knew that web-based polls aren't meant to be treated seriously. So what if Madonna and Linux are up there with Einstein et al. Do you think Times is going to put her on the cover?
Instead of everybody screaming "This is ridiculous blah blah blah, Linux doesn't deserve this blah blah blah, here's my overreacted opinion blah blah blah", let's all take this lightheartedly and/. the poll with more votes for Linux/Madonna/Hank ; )
Maybe chinese music publisers will realize that they can undercut the cost of CDR blanks (and the pain of burning copies and distributing them) and start selling Cd's for a few bucks (in much greater quantity).
Coming from Hong Kong (where piracy is just as rampant as mainland China, and where most of our shipments come from China), it's very tough for music publishers to beat the price of pirate CDs. Right now, you can buy a pirated CD album in Hong Kong for around $12.5 HK dollars, which is ~ USD $1.60 (software is a bit more expensive, around $3.20 per CD - so Visual C++ 6.0 was around 3 bucks:) And if you make the effort to take a train to China, you can buy CDs for at least half the price in HK (one CD for ~ 80 cents US)
Pirated DVDs cost a little more, but nothing more than a dollar or two US.
Considering how pirates in China actually employ huge commercial CD stamping machines, and how they don't mind to make only several cents of profit, it will be hard for music publishers to undercut them, sadly enough : (
From the article, it also states that Athlons are pretty expensive out there right now, due to limited supplies.
The quote in question... The 500-MHz version of Athlon currently sells for $324 while the 550-MHz and 600-MHz versions sell for, respectively, $479 and $699. Tight supply of Athlons, however, is creating something of a high ceiling price for the chip. Retailers are offering the 600-MHz version for $950, where available, while the 550-MHz and 500-MHz versions are being advertised for $720 and $488.
being able to watch VCD/DVDs on the PC is a great boon to us college students - we don't necessarily have a living room in our dorms, nor could we easily fit a 27" TV into our own rooms. Meanwhile, a 17"/19" Monitor (with a TV card) doubles as a TV and micro home theater:)
Amiga has selected Linux as the OS kernel for the new Amiga Operating Environment that is scheduled for release later this year.
Is it just me, or does Amiga sound like it's incredibly easy to plug in some OS kernel and ship it as a product? They have just made the decision to use the linux kernel, yet it'll be plugged in and ready to sell within half a year. Is it really that trivial?
Well, I still see a lot of anti-Mac FUD here, but at least he's toning down a bit. I'd be quite surprised, however, if he actually trook the time to properly optimize the Mac version of Quake3. Oh, and he seems to have been testing a Voodoo2 (or Voodoo3 even?) on the PC vs. a Rage Pro on a beige G3; you call that fair? Also, I like this bit about "No openGL Voodoo support on the Mac..." It's called Mesa, John. It's been out for years. Sure, Apple doesn't yet have 3Dfx GL support (I have yet to figure out why) but the Mac does.
But hey, he's improving, at least. His anti-Mac rants aren't totally inaccurate anymore. And hell, he's giving Q3Test to Mac users first.
you mac people should consider yourselves lucky that Apple is willing to listen to Carmack on how to make Macs a better gaming platform (Carmack has been doing that since NeXt got acquired). I love how Mac evangelists brand anything negative about their beloved macs as FUD. If you can refute any of Carmack's claims (I doubt that 99% of you out there knows what he's talking about in his.plan files), then stfu. thank you.

But then, you're an AC, so what do I expect.
