The only diff between portage and fink is one is from GenToo and one is from Debian. They are just distribution packaging systems. Nothing more, nothing less.

The only thing this adds is variety, and competition. It's not filling a particular hole.

I am a corporate coder, and I've done it for a few companies. Some embrace the entire opensource movement and the things that I (may) like, and there are some companies which don't want to patch OSS and give the patches away. And you know what, I don't care about that either. If MY code was pulled every other project I wanted to see put out, I wouldn't care, because for me, coding isn't an extrovert form of expression, but one for my self.

But you know what, it's ok if he's not happy and that it took him 4 years. There's a LOT we don't know about his experience with AOL. Hell, a LOT of people are married for 5, 10 and 20 years (and a lot of other numbers) and get divorced well after that.

So unless he's done something that we know, let's not pass judgement, unless we be judged or some crap.

Now, assuming a lot of tiny tiny companies haven't sprouted that would pirate software, wouldn't it be somewhat obvious that software piracy would be down?

    Just playing devil's advocate.

For the past 2 weeks, I've had mild static. My filter-based dsl has suffered a bit of on and off. This behavior has happened two or three times before. It usually clears up on its own. Well,

Last week thursday comes, and my line is useless. Too much static and my DSL keeps losing connection.

"Verizon, please have someone come and check my line please. Yes, I'll be home monday."

Monday, today, comes, I'm expecting to be in late for work, having an 8am - 12pm appt. Having suffered from an appointment being canceled by a dentist recently, w/o notice, I decided to call Verizon and confirm my appt is still on for today.

"Friday, you confirmed your line is fine at 7pm."

Friday nite, I was at a v-ball game. WTF?

"Best we can offer is, sometime before 6pm."

The maintenance crews are mostly liars. They don't do their job, and when they do, it's half assed. The gov't/FCC needs to closely watch these companies and make sure they are doing their job... or reregulate it. Really.. or at least get some watchdog organization in place.
