Hmm. The board im running right now (Abit KV8-MAX3) has 4 Serial ATA ports provided via the SIIL controller, 2 Serial ATA ports provided by the VIA controller, and 2 IDE ports provided by the VIA controller. That would allow a total of 10 hard drives, actually.
The case it's in is a Lian-Li brushed aluminum case, with 6 small 3.5in bays and 4 large 5.25in bays. The BIOS of course supports having a drive connected to every port on the board. Recently before I sold the drives in another machine, I was running a 4 drive RAID, a 2 drive RAID, and 2 other hard drives in this computer, for a total of 8 drives. This is my home machine.:O
Look here.
This has been done before, indeed, in my city.. The electronic voting machines are already made and produced, and have been used and proven.. and the major consensus around here was approval, most people complained about the move to a new system, but after it was done and over they admitted it was indeed faster, easier, and the way to go..
Incidentally, slashdot had an article regarding that already, here.
actually, every electronic voting machine had a battery backup to it. Me and my family live in Riverside County (in riverside actually) and helped to set up the system at a few polling sites.. if you asked me it got off to a rocky start early in the day (but doesnt anything that's a first time use dealie) but later on it was running quite smoothly indeed. I think it's worth the $14 we spent on the system.. it will pay off in higher reliability (which is now at a premium thanks to the hubbub in florida), reduced use of paper, and speed and ease of use.
Efficient coding? On our MacOS 8.6 Fileserver/At Ease server/Web Proxy Server at work, if you simply click on the application selector in the upper right and leave that menu open, all other operations on the computer are halted until the user clicks something.. I dont consider that to be terribly efficient coding. I'm not sure but I also seem to remember if you click any menu at all it stops all background operations from continuing on.. not to mention the terrible multitasking performance of MacOS. Otherwise, it's a much better OS IMHO.. stability on that G3 server is a non-issue compared to our NT server..
I just got outta a few parties myself, was drunk enough to practically pass out earlier, and now that i've sobered up and driven home, slashdot is my only stop before bed.. Slashdot rocks =D
In other news, I'm interested in this myself.. Matrix had some rockin fx in it. Hope more people are too =D
Windows Server 2003 is firewalled as you describe until you complete the windowsupdate procedure.
ROFL.
:D
Thats a good one.
