I couldn't find their patents in the database. Over in the Trademark database I found that they cancelled their "VOS" trademark last year. Their pages have 1998 dates. Maybe they're orphaned pages.
What sort of lawywers would not notice that VOS has been a Stratus OS for over 10 years? Admittedly, the online Stratus copyright page does not list VOS (and is using proprietary symbols instead of the Trademark Symbol).
I'm not aware of anything which is sensitive to any operating system. It's just a matter of having standards and procedures for all the hardware and software which is being used. A computer has to have controls over its maintenance, upgrades, and configuration. Those controls have to be formal enough for the auditor to be able to document them for the SAS 70.
Should I set up a pool for people to chip in to buy a share of this thing? Let's see...a Perl script to check the PayPal balance and place the new bid on eBay? The hard part would be the scheduler and accounting tinkering to allow proper sharing based upon participation.
Due to the recent/. discussion about PayPal, I checked...the "Support EFF" page on EFF.Org does invite payments through PayPal as well as several other electronic and traditional services.
Sir,
Please remember that when you acquired the refrigerator the notice on the box required that you only use it for storing USDA-approved food, that it be filled only by a licensed professional, and that cleaning be done only by our certified maintenance facilities. We have noted that users often lose the magnetic external storage accessories, but you can easily buy approved replacements at the manufacturer's official web site. Violation of your usage license or use of unapproved accessories requires that you return the appliance immediately, without opening it after the violation occurs.
Don't forget to use your barcode scanner to scan the books and associate the title with the barcode in your database for future use.
And print a bar code for each box and put it on the outside, perhaps on both a wide and narrow side to make it easier to have one visible. Then when you're looking for a box you have the choice of reading the list, reading the code printed under your barcode, or scanning boxes until your laptop beeps that you found the box that you were looking for. [Well, maybe by the time you're looking for a book you'll have a wearable instead of a laptop...]
People keep saying the plastic tubs are sealed. Look more closely and you'll find many of them have a few holes, often near the handles. The lids close more easily that way, although nothing damp inside will dry quickly enough to avoid mildew. And there is a chance that bugs can get in -- a few mothballs may persuade them otherwise (do mothballs bother silverfish?).
One recent theory of sleep is that the bloodstream can't carry enough energy to the brain to sustain it. While awake, brains use bloodstream-delivered energy and stored energy. Sleep is needed to recharge the stored energy -- apparently it's stored in glial cells.
It will be quite a challenge to alter the physiology and chemistry enough to solve that problem.
This theory arose out of the simple observation that not having to sleep would be a tremendous evolutionary advantage -- so why are there not more animals that do not sleep? Instead, it seems sleep is a biological imperative, so there is probably some very basic requirement for it. Even fruit flies sleep -- do you really think they need to dream or store many memories?
A color screen requires more memory in the graphics subsystem; you couldn't replace the physical screen like that without side effects. Of course, perhaps the "screen module" would have memory on it -- or the base module would have more that enough for mono and enough for color.
Actually, if you want a modular wearable device go make a case for PC/104 cards. The base unit can have the PC/104 motherboard, and the screen module have the graphics card along with the screen; the PC/104 bus has all the ISA signals, so the screen module becomes part of the system.
And you could have sleeves that insert between the base and the screen for stacking additional cards, for the people with special hardware needs.

Like, you want a smart IDE controller?

Did you look at the IDE RAID controllers? They use normal IDE drives, so the controller must be fairly intelligent. And I believe you can select whether writes are reported as complete when the controller gets the request or when the data has been physically written to the disks.
When I send a paper letter to you, does your company have people who review every letter which is received or sent?
No, I'm certain the paper mail is simply delivered to your desk. The same way outgoing paper mail is handled, and interoffice paper mail. The mailroom leaves the responsibility with the individuals involved.
If you remember your business letter standards, how you sign your letter is also an indication of whether you are speaking for the company or not. The responsibility with paper mail is with the individuals.

Since when is solaris an operating system written by college kids ?
Perhaps someone got Solaris confused with the first Sun OS, BSD Unix, which was created at Berkeley. Bill Joy was in college when he helped create Sun in 1982...after he helped create BSD Unix.
what about the case where they buy up an existing company which uses FreeBSD?
Well, why should Microsoft buy a company unless it improves Microsoft {products|services}? If the company is being bought so its technology can be used by MS, the resulting MS tech should then be used by that company. If the company's service is going to improve MS/MSN services, then it could be left alone. If the company is being bought just to reduce the influence of a competitor, then the technical details don't matter as much as market share.
Gasoline emissions? The modern gasoline engine exhaust is almost all water and carbon dioxide.
The only improvement you could make to that is use hydrogen, so there is no carbon involved. And then you have to deal somehow with the lower energy density of hydrogen.
Or else use electric vehicles, so you can use electricity from hydro, fission, and fusion plants. But you'd better start building them now so you'll have enough electricity.
There does seem to be a lot of yelling going on around the IQ-Kitten...
It's only a "longstanding tradition" if you are too young to remember the "Betamax case".

Oh, never mind... FlashVOS cancelled their 1988 VOS trademark. Oh.. and Stratus VOS also was cancelled, in 1991.
There's a summary by the Ohio State auditor. A CPA Journal article is more technically oriented.

Would you believe there are no trademarks in the U.S. which use the word "Desist"? I actually checked the database.
