  1. EQL + crypto VPN + modems on Spread Spectrum Digital Modem? · · Score: 2
Well, just hook up your favorite cellular modems to their phones. Then use EQL to configure a single network link through all those modems. Then use some encrypted VPN tech to create an encrypted link through the EQL device. The encrypted packets will then be splattered through the modems, and they're protected from listeners.

Notice that whether the phones use spread spectrum at the hardware level or not, they can still be theoretically monitored. And any collection of phones will be hard to monitor, as they'll be using their usual methods of avoiding interference with each other -- whether they use TDM, multiple frequencies, whatever. Or use several different types of phones with different types of networks...

  2. Filtering criteria may be changed on What is Carnivore, and How Does it Work? · · Score: 2
But the filter is aimed at a specific user and keywords. The judge approves such things, as telephone wiretaps allow tapping specific phones and may have restrictions on calls to which phone numbers may be recorded.

However, notice that a Carnivore can be altered through its modem. A good guy, a bad good guy, or an intruder can alter the configuration remotely. I hope the security on that modem is as good as it should be.

You might ask an organist, they play with pedals also. You could also check if there tended to be injuries caused by foot-pumped portable organs or foot-pumped sewing machines; although this is an easier motion than erratic selection, a pattern of injuries would be an indicator of problems.

Actually, at 3 AM the lights where probably shifting to the morning pattern and the other direction was also all messed up.

Several times, in other cities after major events I've seen outgoing traffic escorted by a police car -- with no siren but its give-me-a-green-light signal light flashing. Pretty effective at keeping traffic moving, although at an unusual rate matching the speed limit.
