In fact I would guess that it is pretty rare to find a front page story without a US connection. The only common ones I can think of would be stories about CERN, ESA, and Airbus. I do not see why you take such offense to a site based in the US being US centric. Sure some people on the site are not from the US but that is to be expected.

In the many places thanks to the move to digital you can get all the networks for free but many people don't bother which I think is dumb. In many other locations the cable companies have changed the way TV stations work. I can get about 12 channels on my TV with a simple antenna. Only two are networks! The cost of entry is low but the major networks do not want to be in this OTA market because the cable companies have to pay to carry them now.
I think that the law should change so that cable companies only have to pay for the broadcast channels that customers can get with an antenna. TV used to be free and we need to go back to that. It is insane to pay for a TV with ads!

    Virginia and self driving cars.
    AMD US based company.
Egyptian out ranks Google. No US centric.
Making an AR-15 in the Wired offices. Guns and Wired...
Seems very US centric to me. Almost every story has something to do with the US or US companies. Some effect other nations but everyone has a connection to the US.

Maybe I am wrong but something of interest has to be happening in the world that does not involve a US company and or the US government. I left out that Slashdot was founded in the US and current owner is Dice and they are located in New York.
This is a US centric site. Nothing wrong with that and of course everyone is welcome but The majority of the people on this site are from the US and the majority of the stories are about US companies and the US government. Not all but the majority.

Frankly I would hate to live in the SF area. I like the level of diverse culture that South Florida offers. Not just in race but economics and urban and rural lifestyles.

The Bay area just does not seem like a place I would want to live and I bet a lot of other people feel the same way.

I still think a big part of it is location. SF has large asian and white communities and only tiny African American and Hispanic communities. Oakland's African American community is also shrinking but Oakland never had a large educated African American community.
If Google wants a more diverse workforce it needs to open centers in areas with more diversity like Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, and South Florida. Places where you have "Traditionally Black Colleges" and or a long established Hispanic community.

Solar and Wind both have a part to play. Solar has some real problems with supply/demand that solar fans like to gloss over but Wind backed by natural gas peaking plants works rather well in many areas. Solar does not compete for base load and can not until a massive breakthrough in storage is made and is in production. Molten salt thermal storage, batteries including Teslas, and pumping water are just not good enough to solve the problem. Nuclear and Hydro are the two lowest carbon output base load methods that work today. And who knows this may all be a none issue if Lockheed's high beta fusion reactor works. I tend to be very skeptical about Fusion but Lockheed has a really good track record at doing the amazing.

The 10kwh Powerwall is only good for 50 cycles a year! It is more of a house size UPS. The 7 will work for daily use but it is more expensive per kwh than the 10 and even Solar City is not going to sell the 7.
The Tesla power wall battery still sucks. It does suck less than other battery packs but only a little. The big improvment is one of packaging and frankly hype.
I know that this is going to go counter to the Church of Tesla's teachings but even the Model S really does not count. It is a 100K car for the very rich. Another fact is the simple truth that the Tesla car company is not successful car company yet. It has yet to make a profit.

No we do not need to move to low voltage wiring in our homes because of the "success" of the Powerwall. The Powerwall is the the solution to the solar production/demand problem. And frankly in most homes the biggest power users are things like AC, Hot water heaters, dryers, stoves, refrigerators, and so on. All of which work just fine on AC and I for one do not want to have to have a bus bar the size of my arm running to my dryer so it can work on 12 volts.
