If I recall correctly, you have some interesting comments from time to time so I'll respond. (And as always, with courtesy.)
You're right. The past 24 hours has turned into a kindergarten of sorts and I'm shouting too, but I don't think it will last long. I don't want to leave Slashdot and most others don't either. There is no better place at the moment. A lot of us have looked. There are still good things here, but they are about to be nuked with beta. When (if?) slashdot implodes, a lot of good communication between IT experts will be lost. It would be a real shame. No one wants that including you. I can see that.

Not yet. It wasn't just the moderation either, but the comments too. I want to see what Dice will do in a couple of weeks after the firestorm this round. I don't have high hopes, but I will stick around long enough to see their choice... after I boycott, of course!

Slashcode, which the site runs on is open source. Could we create a new, independent Slashdot that runs classic Slashcode... and get it to host the same community as is hosted here?
What you ask for could be very difficult. I'm not sure about the specifics Okian Warrior has in mind, but if you are truly interested in some kind of fork, get in touch with him in a couple of weeks after the bosses at Slashdot / Dice have time to figure out what their next move is. I think if they back down from beta, Okian probably won't want to invest in a fork. (I'm putting words in his mouth. I really don't know.) If they continue to follow the same pattern of stupid, we may very well see a fork happen.

I have seen more 3, 4, and 5 digit user IDs in the past 24 hours lambasting the beta. It's amazing. I even saw a 2 digit user ID throwing in his two cents. (I should have marked the spot but can't find it now.)

There are ideas about creating a new community. I'm sure any (or lack of) responses from the Dice overlords about the protests over the next couple of weeks will tell us what the future of the Slashdot community will be.

The fact that every comment thread is being overrun with complaints about the beta site is going to drive a lot of people away. That costs/. money as the ad revenue disappears. And that's apparently all that those running the show understand.
If there's anything that I've learned in the last 15 years about Slashdot, it's that they essentially ignore all complaints. Giving them "feedback" about the new site isn't going to do anything. Depriving them of their money -- that might get their attention.
Yup. A few days of hurt will hopefully change their attitude. I don't want to leave. I want Slashdot to return to its former glory. I really do. Anything else is too much work. Even those bastards in management have got to realize how angry we are. Okian's idea about an alternative Slashdot won't materialize if they drop the beta stupidity... but I'm betting it will if they ignore us and our warnings for the next two weeks.

Someone else had a better idea. The Slashdot programmers should have APIs available for multiple front ends. (I mean, hey, this is nerdville filled with programmers, after all.) If they are really that gung ho about wasting space, there is no reason why classic and waste-space front ends can't co-exist.
With that said, you and I know that won't happen hence my signature.

not sure about that - most people with mod points will mod "fuck beta" posts as -1 as they are offtopic, and such posts are easy to moderate (ie you don't have to think if something is insightful or informative for example).
I always mark things off topic, but not this time. I'm making an exception and I'm not the only one with mod points making that exception. The Dice overlords didn't hear the first dozen times we screamed about the beta site so we're screaming louder since they are telling us they are going to take away our classic view. Really... this is the last time before Slashdot implodes. If they move ahead to the beta crap and force us on it, Slashdot is going to be a ghost town.

No place has the commenting that Slashdot does and that's for a reason. Dice is destroying that reason. Others are posting lists in various places. I've starting my own personal list based off that. I'll go shopping around the week I'm boycotting slashdot.

They don't always make shit up. Example from this morning: One of my relatives just sent me a Fox video describing how bad malware is and how there is a savior on the horizon. I bit and and watched the "news article". It was nothing more than a sensationalistic advert for a anti-malware company very loosely disguised as news. See? Fox sometimes gets paid for companies to make shit up and they report that.
Now, please excuse me. I have to go bleach my eyeballs.
My favorite is Barbara Shipman. This woman got a PhD in mathematics and discovered bees were doing a 6 six dimensional mathematical dance in 2 dimensions for communication.
I've been on Slashdot long enough to know that unless Linus accepted the CEO spot, whoever got it was going to get a lot of hate here.
If Linus did become CEO of Microsoft I suspect you would see more hate than ever before!
Too late. I hate both of you more than I've ever hated anyone before. This crazy idea about Linus as the CEO of Microsoft is so absurd that it just gave me a major migraine.:P
Not only have I done this, but I'm protesting by boycotting as well.
