RMS is simply someone who is willing to step on people's nice comfortable ideas to make change in the world around him.
We need people like him, whether you like him or agree with him is irrelevant if he makes you understand your own positions and reasons clearly.
Running from his ideas because they make you uncomfortable is intellectual cowardice. Confront his ideas, think carefully for yourself, and if you disagree with him defend your position.
If you find you cannot defend your position adequately, maybe there is a flaw in it. Remember that there is always room for more than one model, and everyone starts from a different place.
