  1. Line Conditioning on Insurance Claims Reveal Hidden Electronic Damage From Geomagnetic Storms · · Score: 1

Power conditioners may handle more issues, but surge protectors will probably be enough protection to limit the actual damage from geomagnetic storm since brown outs usually do not cause major damage. Yeah I know low voltage over a while can cause considerable damage to some equipment. Maybe a low voltage cut off would help with brown outs. So one either needs surge protectors with expensive coils and caps in addition to the a $0.29 MOV. Now are they needed for the whole house or just the expensive and delicate computer and TVs?

  3. The Transistor was invented in 1925 on How Vacuum Tubes, New Technology Might Save Moore's Law · · Score: 1

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T... - Physicist Julius Edgar Lilienfeld filed a patent for a field-effect transistor (FET) in Canada in 1925, which was intended to be a solid-state replacement for the triode.[1][2] Lilienfeld also filed identical patents in the United States in 1926[3] and 1928.[4][5] However, Lilienfeld did not publish any research articles about his devices nor did his patents cite any specific examples of a working prototype. Because the production of high-quality semiconductor materials was still decades away, Lilienfeld's solid-state amplifier ideas would not have found practical use in the 1920s and 1930s, even if such a device had been built.[6] In 1934, German inventor Oskar Heil patented a similar device.[7] - The transistor was REINVENTED in 1947!!! - Following its development in 1947 by John Bardeen, Walter Brattain, and William Shockley, the transistor revolutionized the field of electronics

Since most of the reporting will be mundane statistics the security is NOT needed, just us HTTP.

I would have the owner of the car get a phone messge to go get in the car and activate the bluetooth connection and then punch in some code. Once this is done the phone would provide the car with any updates. This would prevent any script kiddies, theives, police or FBI from doing any damage to the vehichle becuase only the owner with the authorized bluetooth would be able to do the updates. I know the police and FBI would prefer to have total access but this is a HUGE privacy issue and they MUST have a court order and show cause BEFORE they get access. Fishing expiditions are NOT allowed!

The "do it yourself" job will never end, always be in need of some tweaking, and it almost totally unsaleable, it's yours only you know what it's doing and how to fix it. I would not rely on WiFi for communication, due to security issues. Anyone can listen in on your system and get a good idea of what is going on, how vunerable one is and how to gain access. One can help the instalation by putting Cat5/6 in all the walls and access locations. Don't forget, garage, patio, pool, front walk, etc. When someone wants the front lit up with blinking Xmas lights timed to some music, it needs HA connection.
