Lol, yeah. I was running an Phenom 1100T when they first came out and upgrade to the FX-8350 when it was launched over 2 years ago. I've been considering buying the FX-9590 just to tide me over till these come out.

To be honest, I have no real need to upgrade until I get more into 4K gaming and upgrade from the overclocked 290x that I have now.

  5. Re:RFID based? on Shopping for Building Access Security? · · Score: 2, Interesting

Most of the systems that I've installed, managed and used were a variation upon this theme. They were all contact-less NON-RFID cards that also served double-duty as ID badges. That proved pretty handy as they were always visible and easy to use when mounted to a retractable cord. The wiring system is rather simple as it's simply a serial connection (for the older systems) but requires home runs to the controller.. I've seen newer systems that use POE and are IP based which simplifies installation somewhat in that you no longer have to do home runs to the controller.

  6. My Experiences with Lasik on Laser Vision Surgery for Developers? · · Score: 1

Ok, I'm going to detail all of my experiences with Lasik for all you people. Maybe it will help some of you deceide.

About a year ago I had Lasik done in both eyes. I had -1.5 and a -3.5 prescription. I had worn glasses for about 5 years and had worn contacts for the past 5 years. My wife had a worse prescription, ie.. about a -4 in both eyes and also had severe astigmatism.

My surgery was done all at once. My wife had to go two. The first surgery for her corrected her astigmatism, completely. Except for a very small almost unmeasurable amount, she has virtually no astigmatism now. The second surgery corrected her near-sitedness, like mine. We both were very light sensitive for about 2 weeks and were EXTREMELY so for about 2 days. We both had to wear goggles to sleep for 2 weeks and to keep the cats out of the bed for 2 days.

Our results after the surgery are as follows: I see 20/15 now and she sees 20/20. We both are somewhat light sensitive but I am no more than I was when I was wearing contacts. We both also see slight halos at night but it is no worse than it was when I was wearing contacts, maybe a little bit better.

    I hope that this helps.

This is sorta funny because I was just thinking along these lines a few weeks ago. Let me explain.

I was in the Sunnyvale Fry's store a few weeks ago when I noticed that they were moving around some aisles in the software section. I didn't pay much attention to it until a few days later when I returned and noticed something, the area for PC games had shrunk by almost two aisles! Do you want to know what had replaced those two aisles of PC games? Console games. Seems a bit ironic doesn't it?

The reason that this seems so significant to me is that gamers seem to drive alot of the cutting edge advances in hardware (Faster CPU & GPU for higher frame rates/realism) and yet some seemingly pretty decent games are coming out on Xbox and other consoles ONLY or several months ahead of the PC version (Unconfirmed rumor of a couple of id games being Xbox only has been floating around).

  8. My experience with Non-compete clauses on Fair Compensation For Non-Compete Clauses? · · Score: 1

I've been with several companies technical departments as a Network Admin. Of these companies, only the one that was into technical services required me to sign a non-compete. It was a 3-year dealie with a city-wide radius of thier offices. I was offered no compensation for this and considering some of the recent court rulings, due to the field I'm in, that 3 year contract would have been unenforcable. None of the other companies even mentioned a non-compete clause, even thought I now work in the middle of silicon valley. Most non-compete clauses are just a threat to hold over your head and I seriously doubt that most companies would strictly enforce them.
