I've had 2 CFL lights on the porch for the last 3 years, and they work flawlessly in temperatures ranging from -40c to + 30c.
Methink you had some other issue on that socket.
Lasik is totally useless for presbyopia, one of the most common causes for "older" folks to wear glasses, or for those near sighted folks that need to remove their glasses to read (lasik would introduce the need for reading glasses in those case).
War. War never changes.
Since the dawn of human kind, when our ancestors first discovered the killing power of rock and bone, blood has been spilled in the name of everything: from God to justice to simple, psychotic rage.
(many thanks to Fallout 3)
Yes we see wind gusts well over 100KM/H, but very little sustained like what would would get out of a hurricane. It makes a large difference on structures.
Even those storms that pass by the east coats rarely step over that threshold.
Don't know about ships or drones, but in airplanes the GPS only provide part of the picture.
Navigation in airplanes require at least 2 (different) means of assessing position (radio beacon (NDB), GPS/VOR/Tacan/MLS/ILS/Radar/Compass/map/Etc). As those means are always cross checked against each others, a malfunctioning/corrupted GPS would be found relatively quickly.
Getting a bunch of comets (and heavy iron cores asteroids) to terraform Mars should be the goal. Then we can think, in a few thousand years or so, to populate it.
What induce motion sickness in the rift, or car, or airplane is a disconnect between what your eyes see and what your body feels (or does not). The latency on the rift is low enough to actually not really matter in the equation.
The only way to fix this for most is by training, however there will always be a subgroup that will never be comfortable using the rift, and short of rewiring the brain won't be fixable either.

This storm is weather. Global warming just makes it more likely that you will get this weather. So no, the storm was not caused by global warming.
