I've been using linux on a dell latitude e7270 for over a year now and my battery lasts more than in windows. The trick is to configure it properly. In arch linux https://wiki.archlinux.org/ind... and I think you can get those in other distros too.
With those and the standard battery I get between 5 and 10 hours depending on the workload.
Linux is not open source is free software. Unless they changed the license and I didn't notice... This guy head of the linux foundation is a jerk and should resign.
