  1. Shelves - Android on Ask Slashdot: High-Tech Ways To Manage a Home Library? · · Score: 4, Informative

I use Shelves for Android to keep track of all my Books, DVD, Games, what not.

It has functions for loaning out materials and uses the barcode scanner software you install on your phone or tablet device.

  2. Washington State Gives H1B & Dependents a brea on Indian CEO Says Most US Tech Grads "Unemployable" · · Score: 2, Interesting

So I guess Mr. Nayar will soon have to include many of his fellow country men (and women). Washington State Governor just signed legislation to allow H1B workers and their dependents to gain residency rates on tuition at Washington States colleges and universities. This was, of course, spearheaded by former Microsoft employee turned state representative, Ross Hunter.

So will Microsoft and the other high tech companies in the Northwest not consider hiring US trained H1B workers in the future? I think not.

I too am among the leagues of CS students forced to use this antiquated POS.

Hell, even the crappiest forum software does a better job of threading posts than does the discussion board abomination that BB uses.

  4. Re:Better yet! - Snowdisk on Data Mining Used Hard Drives · · Score: 1

You don't need a whole distro for that, just a clever application. You can use snowdisk to encrypt the whole drive with random useless data. It wasn't originally developed for that, but I have had no problem using it for completely wiping drives clear of useful data.

We didn't even have a sleeping bag. We just had to make do with and old cardboard box in the middle of the road. And we had to eat a handful of cold gravel for dinner!

Read the info guys. Carbon nanotube ribbon weighs less than 8kg per kilometer. Not much environmental impact from that.

There are several whitepapers on the website that have a lot of information that will clear up a lot of the outdated information that people are getting from Sci-Fi novels.

  7. AsianSuite from Unionway on Japanese Input Support For Western OSes? · · Score: 1

The last company I was with used Japanese speaking/reading people fairly extensively and on the Win32 machines they were working on we used AsianSuite 2000 from http://www.unionway.com/. It provided an input method that was almost identical to the input method used in the Japanese version of Windows98. You could input hiragana, katakana, and kanji characters using the software. I believe they even have a demo available at their website.

They are also one of the first bands to release an MP3 only album.
    (TMBG to Release MP3 Album)
Sold through emusic.com, you could only obtain this album in MP3 format. No physical form of the album was released. So while they may not agree with the way Napster uses MP3's, they certainly aren't against the format itself.

I use Debian, if my friend wants to isntall Linux to play around with it, he installs Corel. Even he, the Microsoft Bitch that he is, says that Corel is easier than windows. And I think Mandrake isn't too far behind.

Ahh, Debian, friend to many. Corel is based on upon it. So is Storm (http://www.stormix.com). both have very easy, very nice GUI installation routines. Hell, Stormix even installed on a Micron Transport NX laptop without so much as missing a beat. Only had to install pcmcia stuff manually as the offical beat from Stormix is that they do not currently support laptops. -------------------------------------------------- -------------- April 4, 2000 Never draw fire, it irritates everyone around you -------------------------------------------------- --------------
