That's most likely a factor, but the MAIN reason is that it's cheeper than a gallon of watter or milk. Go to the store and look at the price of just about any fluid in the place - Gasoline is cheeper. And it will remain that way until we run out of it.
And, I think it's Sad that/. would endorse such an action. You may not LIKE the trolls, but they ARE a part of/. (and really the net in general) culture. When you start to get exclusionary, you're being MUCH worse than someone who just deletes offensive posts. I'd rather see them delete posts than support, or worse yet take such an action as this. Who knows, maybe they really (DID/WANT TO) sue osm and other trolls. As someone who plays both sides of that fence, I'd be MUCH less likely to participate if Slashdot starting banning and suing people for life just because they didn't like something - how could they be considered objective after that? Not to mention that it would SEVERLY hamper any effort to stand up to people like Microsoft when they come calling demanding that you remove something. No, this is a bad bad idea, and Ebay should just get a clue and deal with it - and/. certainly shouldn't be endorsing it.
Yeah, but they are VERY overpriced. For the system I want, they want just under $2500 to build and support it. Hell, for that kind of money I can build a NICE dual processor system with a killer monitor - okay, no suport, but still. They are VERY expensive. I consistantly sell servers to people who don't want to pay thier prices - including the cost of NT 4.0 Server and licenses. That, and they don't sell and AMD systems yet, which totally kills it for me.
I'd be happy to buy a $1,000 Linux box - I'm tired of duel booting, and also sick of buying something only to find out that it's not the ideal component for Linux.
Yeah, I've read the excuses - and I don't buy it at all either. We COULD develop security out in the open, we could have a client that is both SECURE and OPEN SOURCE. Hell, for that matter I think we could have a perproxy that also met those conditions.
And I'm not writing a wrapper for anything until I get to see the code. In fact, I've pulled some machines I had running the client - I'll run it on systems I don't care about, ones that don't matter if they get compromised, but I'm not running it on production machines that I control and have full authority over anymore because of all the oopses they've had - it's only a matter of time before someone hacks into your system because of D.Net's refusal to open the source.
Yes, you are correct - however, it would NOT be hard to add a GUI wrapper to the CLI client - oh, wait, that's right - closed source. Too bad they still don't get it...
I don't want third party crap - I want it back in the client natively, and I want a GUI client. Methinks they forgot who was really responsible for the sucess they enjoyed - the users. It's no wonder that only about 25% of all participants ever are still active - they piss people off sometimes. Look at how badly they handled silby's departure...
I always run the most recient client. I just want the GUI back. No difference should result from having a GUI as opposed to a CLI client. I'd get the mooing back too...
While not a biologist, I AM a lab tech - please explain what effect breeding will have on this new chromosome - particularly once a mouse who has all these new chromosomes homogenously breeds with a mouse who has NONE of them - ensureing a mouse with hetrogenous artificial/normal chromosome hybrids. Do we have ANY idea at all what effect this will have on offspring?
... the nightmares! The thing that REALLY scares me about this is what they were doing when I left the service: They were taking oral swabs on everyone to get genetic code, ostensibly for identification purposes. Now what's to say they don't track who's a good/better soldier/sailor/marine/airman/pond hopper or what have you, and just say clone a bunch of them? With artificial stuff, maybe we can make the existing one's BETTER! Right?
It's not like splicing is anything new - hell we've been making corn that poisons butterflys for a while now - it's not new. Why is this news? What is the nature of the chromosome, is that what makes it so special? What does it do? Anything?
That's a different pot of money for the most part - and the region is of strategic importance to us as well.
Fawking Trolls!

Someone please take this opportunity to pie Lars in the face like Gates got in Europe. I'll never buy another Metallica album as long as I live.
