The other point that seems to be getting overlooked here is that your music collection won't just be going away anytime soon.
I have no doubts that as soon as the "better" format appears, a conversion utility will show up to move my 9 gig collection of MP3's over to the new format dujour.
I concur. I am typing this from my cubicle, deep in the metal heart of a computer corporation, located in Nampa, Idaho, which is right between Caldwell and Boise. Sure, I may get to smell the delicious smells from the sugar beet factory next door, but I have a T3 line to play on, Fedex can find my house, And I could quit this job tomorrow and be working in IT somewhere else at the end of the week.
You can be a geek anywhere you want, folks.

Sigh.
This is the kind of stuff that makes it so hard for the average person to take internet news sites seriously. April fools jokes SHOULD NOT be started by news sites. And if they are, the sites need to make it damn clear on April 2 that they were not real.
I wouldn't be surpassed if Sengan had just skimmed the article, gotten the impression that it was a real deal article, and slapped it up here, all without realizing that he was getting taken for a ride. Having run a news site on my companies infonet for a couple of years now, I would bet the farm that this is exactly what happened.
News sites, even if they are for Nerds, should only post things that are true. When fluff like this gets posted it makes it harder to take the rest of the news (which is probably real) seriously. Faking news for an April Fools joke and not posting a retraction the next day is a disservice to the entire online news community. After all, We already have one Onion.
I never made it past the first episode. The part where dilbert's mom started dancing on the table was enough to make me switch over and watch something more interesting, like C-Span.
It's too bad, too.. Dilbert was a cartoon that could have been great. (like Futureama)
I have been signed up with the NYT for what feels like forever, and I don't remember ever getting a spam that I can pinpoint originated with them.
Besides that I maintain a secondary email address just to give to people I suspect might try to spam me. Those emails I check every couple of weeks or so, just to clear out the account. Most of my software is registered to my spam account, as well as all my other logins around the net.
Of course, seeing the problems my buddy Drew has with email helps to impart a zen attitude towards spam. (he owns an email address that most people use when they are entering a generic nonspam address..) He gets upwards of 40 emails a day that are pure spam, and its actually pretty interesting to see the crap flow in. In fact, he treats it like a sport, counting how many "be a porno webmaster" spams he gets vs how many "buy reconditioned printer gear" spams he gets each day. (porn usually wins) Did you know that Hot Horny Girls want to talk to You?It's True!
Also, I use an ISP in texas as my Primary email drop, and they have a fierce spam filter that keeps the crapola down to two or three a year. (io.com, if you are interested)
Suprisingly enough, its at www.leatherman.com. Allthough that made me nervous the first time I followed a link there. I was worried I would end up at some hardcore BDSM site and get myself fired.
I have had one of these from the first day I found out they were out. The Leatherman tool, (even if its a different brand, like gerber.. had one of those, too.) is just the most handy thing I have owned. I use mine every day as I tinker on systems. Having a phillips screwdriver, regular screwdriver, and a needlenose pliers with you at all times rocks. The Wave is designed to be easier on your hands... and you can get to the main blades without opening the handle. The only downside to it is that its about twice as heavy as my previous leatherman. However, thats something I can live with.
Jeeze, look what I did.. In retrospect, I really did flame on.. My bad.
If you have managed for this long to not know who Matt Drudge is, then I salute you.. He runs a website, known as the Drudge Report. (http://www.drudgereport.com) There, he basically prints any scandal, innuendo, and rumor that people send him. Somehow, he managed to weasel his way into the national consciousness over the last year or so...
He is, IMNSHO, the net equivalent of The National Enquirer. No rumor or scandal is too sleazy for him to post, with practically no real verification as to how accurate the story really is. People feed him stories all the time which are then reported on his site like they were handed down from the lord above, engraved upon granite plates.
Basically, he embodies everything that is bad about net journalism. To link a great place like slashdot to a sleazemonger like Drudge would be really sad.
That and I'm basically Jealous. The dude has a pretty easy gig, if you think about it.:)
Okay, now there is no possible way that I'm going to buy a story that someone has a 4 hour+ cut of the Phantom Menace. Please kids, lets try to be reasonable. Lucas has better security that that.
And Matt Drudge is lower than pond scum. He resides in the same category as Pro Wrestling, Jerry Springer, and Late-night Infomercials: Fun to watch for a while, but with very little actual content. Kind of like saccharin-coated plastic being passed off as candy.
The fact that the man has the sack to pretend that he is a real "reporter" is astonishing. He is merely a rumor mongerer and a Media Whore.
not that I have a real strong opinion about this or anything. . .
Thats all well and good. But the Supreme Court is appointed for life. I think it would be better to have it default to an unmoderated veiw, only moderating once you log in. and stuff.

I'll be there.

The sooner more game companies start supporting linux, the better. If this helps to do it, great.
Hopefully the trail being blazed by id will make more people aware that there is a market out here...

The wave is sweet, BTW.
