...of this list, particularly since I work for one of the companies on it. Let's just say that, while it's not a sweat shop, this list doesn't take 'level of chaos in the workplace' into account.
Does anyone have any thoughts as to whether this will halt @Home's expansion? I am moving from an area that has cable modem service to one that doesn't, and the only DSL I can get is 144 kbps for $99 a month.... I know it's silly to want to buy service from a company in such trouble, but I'd rather shove a hot poker in my eye than go back to dialup...
Taken from the New Jersey side at about 10 a.m., except the last one, which was taken about an hour later. What words cannot describe, I hope these pictures have captured.
According to the legal document posted here, it looks like Greenspun tried to take back the company. Evidently, there were legal papers drawn up on April 5 that remove Shaheen as CEO, put Greenspun back in his place, and transfer control over the company from the board to the shareholders (Greenspun still owns shares, not sure what percentage.) Looks like Shaheen and the VCs don't want to let Greenspun have the company back...
Unfortunately, Greenspun signed a shareholder's agreement when the VCs came in that probably prevents him from doing this, so it looks like the money people win again (as usual.)
Disclaimer: I'm not a lawyer, so I could be reading the document wrong...
I had heard of the Amazon Honor System, but hadn't really looked into it. It seems like a really good idea. Sites that hire dozens of people to run them might not be able to survive this way, but individuals or small groups who create really cool content might be able to make enough to devote more time, or even full time, to their sites. Sounds good to me. Are there any other services like this, besides Amazon?
Wouldn't it be possible to apply a moderation system to Wikipedia, ala Slashdot, where authors gain karma/credibity points when others vote for them?
Alternatively, couldn't there be a rating system on the posts?
Or are these suggestions somehow anathema to the Wiki concept?
Just a few thoughts...

I know what you mean about your PC having instant on, but how did they get instant on to work with Linux for real?
