Patents today are only used by companies to set back their competition, and anyone who gets relatively close to copying one of these "inventions" gets sued - so the company makes even more money!
They actually specified that Chromecast would NOT be able to play local content from the very beginning. I guess their original code allowed for that, but it was never intentional. It makes sense that their first update would be to stop local content, which I find to be pretty dumb, but probably easily hackable.
If you guys need to use "Chromecast"s functionality, I'd recommend keeping an eye on applications like CheapCast. They're working to put Chromecast functionality into Android. I only heard of them fromt Linux Action Show and haven't tried them, but things seem promising.
There is nothing wrong with PHP, it is just obviously not for you. Yes it may be clunky and slow and you may have 10 better languages in mind, but it has most things you'd need to use baked into it. There is no reason to bash any language, just don't use it if you have a "better" option in mind. I personally love PHP, but that doesn't stop me from experimenting with anything else I find. I find your outlook off-putting.

What an awful idea. Microsoft has really hit rock bottom haven't they...
So Baseball has this technology in real life, but Riot can't rotate the purple side 180 degrees in LoL?
