The Zippo style of lighters use naphtha as fuel. Here is a much more complete description of naphtha than I could furnish myself:

Similar to gasoline, naphtha is a petroleum distillate that contains a colorless cocktail of several liquid hydrocarbons (mostly hexane, heptane, and pentane). Naphtha is a liquid at room temperature and atmospheric pressure. It is extremely flammable, with its flash point at -49F (-45C). The "flash point" is the lowest temperature at which the vapor of a combustible substance will ignite. A mixture of naphtha vapor and air can explode if the concentration of naphtha is between 1% and 5.9% by volume and the temperature is above the flash point. These flammability characteristics are very similar to those of unleaded gasoline.

Bar 89 in New York has bathroom stalls that work like this.

When the stall door is ajar, the walls are transparent, and the unexpecting think everyone will be able to watch them crapping. But when you latch the door, your stall becomes opaque and you need not fear.

Honestly, I don't see UWB (as described in the article) as a huge threat to radio astronomers. With the limited range of UWB (hundreds of feet for a fast connection, 1km for a reliable one) and the tendency of astronomers to locate their observatories far from population centers, not to mention the parabolic dish antennae, I don't imagine that it will significantly influence their results.

Well, I was wondering that too, but in the tech specs it states that you still need at least one Mac around to set up the base station. So without software to set it up from a PC, I'd say they're not really marketing to the PC-only crowd just yet.

    (from http://www.apple.com/airport/specs.html)
    System Requirements
    For PC users
    • At least one AirPort-enabled Apple computer (to set up the base station)
    • A PC with a Wi-Fi-certified IEEE 802.11b wireless card

I definitely think the upgrade train is slowing down. I have a 4-year old, 300 MHz P2 (it was not the top of the line when I bought it), and it still runs the latest versions of Windows 2k Pro and FreeBSD quite comfortably. I upgraded the video card 2 years ago, and it's fine for Quake 3 too.

I was prepared to upgrade it much earlier, but even the games I play seem to manage fine, so I haven't. Circa '94, I remember upgrading every year or so.
