Very clever. So I send a bunch of packets to DARK_A and DARK_B with forged sender headers so that REAL starts blocking legitimate traffic from the senders I faked.
Realtime blacklists are lovely tools for denial-of-service attacks. Probably why you don't see more of them out there.

So basically it seems they've developed some FPGA program that decodes oggs. An impressive first step; they now have the necessary data to send it out for fabrication. Now all they need to do is get enough money to pay for the NRE of setting up that facility. All well and good, and I applaud their efforts.
But to scare up the necessary capital, they sent out a press release that looks like it belongs on engrish.com. Not terribly professional, boys. These are probably some very proficient college students hoping to make some bucks (er, yen). Something tells me they're not getting backing from Goldman-Sachs any time soon.
I'll believe ogg-playing portables when I see 'em, thankyouverymuch.

I don't recall which earlier slashdot article twigged me to it, but SoulSeek (seems to be flaky today) is pretty outstanding for electronic music, and no slouch on other styles. Naturally, you'll get more enjoyment out of it if you donate to the author (he's set up a download priority system which gives *major* benefits to contributors).

  4. Re:Tracking equals higher prices on Microsoft Watching What You Watch · · Score: 1

Um, has it occurred to you that they can do this without tracking technologies?

Consider: I sell french bread for $0.79/loaf. I consistently sell all my stock each week. I raise the price to $1.50, and only sell half my stock the next week. I can continue adjusting the price to maximize the profit without ever having to know what you, my dear beset-upon customer, have purchased lately.
