Kind of what I thought. If the whales are coming back after a few hundred years, doesn't that mean that it was just that warm back then, too? And maybe the algae just wanted a vacation? These are interesting occurrences, and possible bad, but if a moose sneezes does that indicated climate change/global warming/Al Gore did laundry, every single time?
... riders get added at the last minute all the time, resulting in stuff getting passed that has nothing to do with the original bill. Don't know how the Dutch government works, but I could see this happening if it's similar. Nice tactic by the legislatures to try and sneak things in. Not saying this is what happened. Could just have been overlooked.
We're trying (I support the pro-rail group(s) ) http://felttip.com/svmetro/svm/ The problem right now is they're working on getting it started badly. If this went through, I would have a train stop 1.5 miles away that went all the way to Philly. None of the other intermediary steps I listed above. I love trains- relaxing, can do stuff, not worrying about getting into a car accident, no parking fees, no worrying about the car getting stolen, etc. It's just not feasible right now. Hopefully, the rail line I linked gets put through.
Yes, when I had to travel 2 hours each way on the train, I did work and read on the train. But choosing 2 hours vs. 40 minutes each way away from the family just doesn't fly with me. As for TV/surfing, it varies, but doesn't take me away from the family. I can just turn those off and go be with them. I can't turn off the train and give the wife a hug.
But can you imagine the uproar that a work program like that would cause? Forgetting all of the logistics, 20 million people regrading, rerailing, and installing catenary (or mag lines) would be a project that would exceed Hoover Dam. Heck, being out of work right now, I'd do it (I'm a fan of railroads). Like you said, that kind of parallelism would see current rail lines fixed (to be able to handle high speed) and new lines popping up rather quickly. Too bad we're spending our money on wars, bailing out bank CEOs, whatever is fun at the moment.
If I used public transportation, I would have to walk 1 mile to the nearest stop, take a bus to the nearest train (about 45 minutes), then take the train to the city (about 30 if I catch it at the right time), take the subway, then walk another couple of blocks. So I'm going to spend 2-2.5 hours each way every day as opposed to driving for 40 minutes just to make everyone else happy?
I think you misunderstood me. By 'voting wins' I meant that the candidate that I voted for won the election. As I said above I've voted for 3 different parties, and I'm registered independent. My point is that I don't vote a party line, and I still only have 1/2 of my choices get into office. Which is pretty much the same as person who votes a party line gets. I didn't mean to make it sound like a sport. I understand your point of people want "to win" for their satisfaction of being "winners." Sure I'm happy if the guy/gal I voted get elected. But, hell, I voted for Ross Perot way back when (it seemed like a good choice then). I'm not sure if I've been phrasing his correctly; I get no joy of being a winner just to be on a bandwagon. I vote for the person I think will least screw everything up. (Which seems to be increasing unlikely anymore) And thanks for not calling me any names. Refreshing not to be called 'dumbass' or some such.
Wonderful, so when I wake up in the middle of the night, I will have to remember when I left my phone or pad rather than walking to the doorway of my bedroom from my bed to hit a switch, which I have memorized from doing it like 20,000 times. And that's disregarding the 10,000 times I've walked to the bathroom at night and hit the bathroom switch. Now I'm going to have to find an appliance so I don't spray the all over the wall, toilet, and towel rack/towels. Great! Now I can just go wandering around merrily just spraying the entire floor until I find my "convenient" device. Assuming I don't drench that, too. Heaven forbid the thing was being used by the wife and I have to reach over while soaking her- "It's not my fault, sweetie, I'm looking for my remote light switch, but couldn't hold off long enough." Great for kids, too! "Sorry dad, I didn't know where you put you phone, so I just peed in the dog's water bowl 'cause it had a kitchen night light." Can you imagine if stairs were involved? "Aarrrgh, I've fallen and I can't get up to pee. Ooops!"
Sorry, that small little aspect just made me chuckle at all the future (awful) comedy movie scenes that could be based on this.
Err, it's not the looking part; she's not even what most people would call 'hot'. Just need to find the right girl who likes to 'experiment,' if you get my meaning. I did find her.
I'm not of the "go run yourself" ilk. Those who will actually do so will do without any prompting. I was thinking after the big protests against the union stuff that they would obfuscate some. But I fear you are correct, that mostly we don't care. The part that frustrates me is that when I do email, call, or send letters to my representatives, all I get back is "Thank you for letting the Congressmen/Senator/Governor know your position, he will take it into account" blow off. It would be nice if they could just tell me to "well, it's nice and all you care, but really, we don't give a fuck what you think because you didn't give us enough money." I can see why people are so blah on voting. I'm 50/50 in 'voting wins' since '92 (and with 3 different parties, to boot, ha!)
"On the other hand, I majored in IS (In the US) yet my classes weren't strictly theory or "applied computing". It was a mixture. I still had to take the core programming courses (Data Structures & Algorithms, Compiler Design, Operating Systems Programming, etc.) in addition to the IT-type courses (Database Design aka SQL, Computer Networking, "Systems Analysis & Design", etc.)"
Here, too, though I was focused on security, so less base programming and more finding security holes and forensics, plus network stuff. Annoying class was "Web Security," where we had 3 fake websites we had to penetrate a minimum of 4 ways each. Which was neat, but the book was complete crap so I spent a ton more time reading the internet rather than the $110, 160 page book. (What, I didn't know anything about SQL injection at the time) My simplistic view: CS- good if you want to work for MS, Apple, Google, etc IT- good if you want to be a system/network admin/designer/implementator IS- good if you want to a mixture of the above
"The new rules make clear, for example, that if the person with such a role is a victim or a witness rather than a target of an investigation, extra supervision is not necessary." Ah, wow. Another example of potential bad guys getting more rights than victims/witnesses. Making something up here- "Oh, he was a victim of wire fraud. Let's go investigate HIM!" The whole article is scary (and I probably just make some list by saying that). We know that are rights have been eroding due to things like the Patriot Act, but now they going to just release agents to roam wild with NO supervision. Every group has a few bad apples; what are the odds that at least some in the 14,000 agents are going to abuse these new rules? Ever see "Unlawful Entry?" IMDB- http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0105699/
About up-front and blatant this move is. Generally such moves are a bit more crafty or silent. This is just a big 'FU,' we want our buddies to get their perks for their money.
Yeah, I'm thinking he doesn't have any good female friends. They're all married now, but back in college when our group would get together the day after partying, the girls where just as bragging as the guys.

It looks like my vacuum cleaner. And I'm not trying to be funny. It has fixed spinny things, which kinda reminds me of a rotor. Forget it, too early.
You forgot Natalie Portman and grits. Possibly "All your base belongs to us."
Hmm, cool. I thought that was limited to military transports. Wonder if we should tell Michael Bay so he can shoot a car out of one for a movie. Heh.
It's pimptastic!
All for it. I like riding the train.

Why not, we (the US) use our illegal immigrant friends for all types of construction work. Just so happens that cheap labor is cheaper within China.

No.
A citation for that claim would be nice.
it's not in iOS? Besides the whole Apple-Adobe fighting & Apple pushing other standards.
Enjoy.

Funny, I met my wife in a bar.
