Tell your company you're finished with their clients project - and release your code under a different name - then release your own project with slightly enhanced features under another name.
One thing that still gets me about the DMCA is how it circumvents the US Constitution and skips the section called "criminal rights" (thats the 4th, 5th and 6th ammendments...) - due process, right to an attorney, unwarrented search and seizures might apply here. Even if you can search a person's hard-drive wihtout the users permission or a warrent - does that mean you can use it as evidence against someone? And does that mean a legal agency can annouce you guilty as charged without a trial or legal representation? And even better - does that mean a legal agency can enforce laws (IE banning you off your ISP or disconnecting your phone or whatever). Personally I don't think so.
On the other side I'm kinda hoping that the RIAA shoots themselves in the foot (in the sense that napster probably boosts CD sales) and forces napster to filter out "illegal" mp3's - because then it will be a boon to the vastly under-rated unsigned artist community (who - if you know who you're looking for are really quite good)
I think I spelled that right - during post world war II people were worried about communist subversion it is after all the method the communists used to take over Czecheslovokia - where they slowly took over the military, the trade unions and parts of the government. People in America were worried that would happen here - and they were called conspiracy theorists. Communists then weren't very well organized though (especially after world war 2)
What about corperate subversion? This where they slowly take over our government, our legal structure (read that book by Ralph Nader called "no contest"), our economic system, our energy production system (IE - california), and eventually our lives. At this point it wouldn't suprise me if the supreme court ruled in favor of the movie studios (this is after all the same supreme court that violated the US constitution and decided florida's election).
Yes I have contacted my congressman - I wrote my representative - and both of my state senators (Oregon) about the issue - that was a year and a half ago. I have yet to hear a reply. All I asked was their voting record on the issue - and I gave my opinion on how the DMCA thwarts free speach. They never wrote back - they could have sent a form letter, or even e-mailed me (I gave them my e-mail address!) but they couldn't even do that.
alt.binaries.sounds.utilities is a wasteless void right? Bzzzt - wrong - I just checked - 3000 messages. There were even some cubase files to download... (not that I did)
Not to mention I couldn't find one comment about this lawyer/wanna be cop. (even on the.d version of the same group...)
Whats scary is that he assumes guilt, uses scare tactics, uses illegal methods to gather his data (there's a pretty fine line on wether the phone company/@home should be able to give away your personal data to a lawyer in the first place - I mean without a court order/warrent) and seems to think he has some right to go troucing around countries that don't have IP laws like he's john wayne.
Kinda like the digital convergence checks that were mailed out to customers who's files were accessed by an illegal hacker. Did anyone notice that coupon for radio shack only lasted like 2-3 weeks?
Not to mention they mailed them out over 8 months after they announced they were doing so.
Thing is they are being aided. India has just suffered a massive earthquake that has left over 4 million people unhoused (from where I'm from that the equivilent of 1.5 Oregon's).
Last I heard American military cargo planes touched down on monday to distribute goods. And the US isn't alone in that aid.
And what I'm not mentioning is that it was found unconstitutional based on interstate price fixing - not minimum wage laws.
I don't buy CD's anymore anyhow.
I probably shouldn't be replying to slashdot articles :)
Kill one bird with two stones.

I even went as far to tie the cord up in a hangmen noose and mailed it back to the bastards.
Its also one of the oldest online comics :). I think its still made on the Amiga.
I actually had no idea. Maybe I should mention that next time (if ever) I write. Do you know what US law its applied under?

Whats funny is if you watch the original, unedited footage there is lots of engine noise - include a loud snap like noise when armstrong took off.
10-15 years ago we would have written Fox off as a communist apologist.
Why is "kinda strange" - its well known there are more lobbiest on capitol hill fighting on the topic of intelectual property than *any other topic*.
