How about a room full of these for a beowulf cluster!!

  2. LMDS Sites on Wanted - 45 Mile Wireless Broadband? · · Score: 1

Local Multipoint Distribution Services(LMDS) can provide two way digital communication. Applications of LMDS include voice, video, and high speed data communication. The bandwidth of LMDS is more than twice the total bandwidth of AM/FM radio, VHF/UHF TV, and cellular telephone combined. Using LMDS, transmission speeds of several Gigabits per second are possible along line of sight distances of several miles. Just set a few of these things in a line to the closet provider.

  3. Re:Powering medical devices... one problem on Body Powered Batteries -- Thermoelectrics · · Score: 1

I'm guessing you could have the same problem with the external battery pack shorting out. On the other hand, I'm sure those packs are waterproof.

In the case of a thermodynamically powered heart, they could put it inside, behind the heart, near the core of the chest. If your core temperature drops too far, you're screwed if you have an artificial heart or not.

  4. A Solution on Fight Virus With Virus? · · Score: 1

All someone needs to do is write something that disinfects hosts that scan it. Then it installs itself on the scanning host and closes the holes and waits for more hosts to scan it. Maybe even have it uninstall itself after a week or two.. or just leave it until the administrator uninstalls it. You could leave a big icon on their desktop or something :P Let the infected machines find you. Don't go searching for infected machines.

I'd say they're at least 120, and if it rattles your house from a hundred yards or so it's 140db+ :)

  6. Re:#1 problem is the students on Improving CS Education? · · Score: 1

Or maybe it was a required course for those students and you BORED them to death? Why is it always the student's fault? I'd like to be in an environment where the teacher is excited about teaching and makes the student excited about learning and going to class. Most of my teachers here are boring and methodically go over the material. I think the problem is not with the students but with the teachers thinking they can just get up in front of a class and talk and think people are automatically interested.

I worked for Litton-PRC for a summer as an intern and my "Supervisor" got hired at the same time. He was a complete idiot. He knew *nothing* about anything. He always had his reference book by his side (which btw didn't help him at all) and would always do stupid shit I had to fix. He also had an inferiority complex.

    I feel your pain.

  8. Witchhunt on Police Arrest Teen for "Obscene" Web Site · · Score: 3

"He is charged with misuse of computer system information, a felony." How is making a website misuse of computer systems information? I might be able to understand this if he was using this information to do something illegal. So, he has some mock website up with some porn scattered around. I don't think this case will get very far. Just my 2 cents.
