Heh. I'm really wary of iomega stuff nowadays. After my jaz drive crashed (and took out everything on one of the carts)... I found the Iomega Click Of Death page. My experience isn't unusual (a friend of mine had a jaz that crashed). Zips are useful for sneakernet purposes only (any sort of useful "need-it-or-die" information [presentations, etc] tend to make the zip die at the worst possible time).
Some URLs: Iomega Click of death page (host was down when checked...) http://www.thirdeyesp.com/jatin/iomega/index.htm Trouble in paradise can be found at www.grc.com (windoze program for iomega drives).
>>>These are the folks who study the Klingon language (a Klingon version of "Hamlet" and the Bible are in the works, and theres a hilarious scene in the movie where students try to learn the word "kill" in Klingon). Actually, the Klingon version of Hamlet ("Hamlet: Prince of Denmark - The Restored Klingon Version") has already been produced, although highly limited (1,000 copies, hand-numbered, and 26 "deluxe" editions). All 1,000 copies are sold out, but I believe if you're willing to donate US$500, you will get one of the deluxe versions.
The URL? http://www.kli.org (The Klingon Language Institute). Careful, it's a 64K link...
Paranoia or not, some exams just can't be taken with an IR-enabled calculator...
I remember for my SATs/APs/etc I had to cover up the IR port (this was after much debate on whether to allow such calculators or not on the exam in the first place!). I'd be lost without my HP48, so using another calculator (except as backup) is unworkable...
If no IR port was requested, so be it... Just makes an opporunity for someone to make a hardware device that does IR...
I remember I downloaded a 4 minute "movie" of TradeWars... run the batch file (DOS), and hope you had ANSI.SYS (the infamous keyboard remapper) installed...
Batchfile required tweaking so the movie played at the right rate (had a program that just spewed text from a file at a specified rate...).
Theatres here (up north) have just hiked their prices to CDN$10/person, and estimates have it now that to take the average family out to the movies will cost a princely CDN$75...
Not including costs like lining up 4 hours ahead of time, etc. etc.
I'll wait for the DVD... (Lucas would be unintelligent [extremely] to wait for all the movies to come out before releasing the DVDs/videos). Simple reason: if you can't get the DVD and the movie's not being shown... great time to start bootlegging, unfortunately.
Well, according to the web site, they got a standard version with 32 mb. I can only assume that it's the one selling for $99... doesn't mention if it's flash, eeprom, or normal RAM (sram? dram?)
Hmm. Odd feature:
Plays any mp3 file and stores upto 64 MB of song data.
Play up to 64 minutes of mp3 songs. Standard model has 32 MB built-in memory (32 mins)
I guess it's $99, then you have to buy a super expensive 32 mb memory card. (from the picture, it looks rather proprietary... not even CF/SM).
Is it possible that what this page was about is an old page referring to a planned but never followed-through hardware device (the ISP page seems to be an old version of their website)? Perhaps its to judge the market (i.e., willing to release it, but want to find out how popular it is before actually starting production)? Speaking of which, I have no idea how to get to the link of the page from their main website...
Heh, I find it hard to use a "normal" (algebraic) calculator... I'm so tempted to just do 1 2 3 + +
As for writing, I transpose letters and drop them (or half-write them), which gets worse the faster I have to write (aka "taking notes"). No wonder my notes are so illegible to me.
Better yet, I don't make much sense sometimes, when the ideas come too fast for the transcription medium (keyboard/writing/speaking)... What I need is a neural interface (and I can't upgrade the buffer... it's way too small for my needs now).
As a web user I find Javascript generally useless and slow.
Yes! I turned javascript off and noticed a minimum order of magnitude speed increase. Plus, I got a nice side benefit... geo* type sites are bearable again to view. I don't really miss it.
Additionally, a good website will make allowances to those stuck with "less-capable" (older) browsers. If I'm stuck with a link that's a "click-through" or a "pick your site", it's all a nice View Source away.
Only problems are that Netscape doesn't support Cascading Style Sheets with javascript off, oddly, and that the "Break out of these frames" link sometimes works (from people who can't seem to realize that off site links should break out of the frames itself).
Movies are really expensive these days... tickets costing $7 per person (not including taxes), then the confectionary, ends up being around $11-15 per person... (yow!)
When you take the whole family out, it's a pretty small fortune there, *sigh*.
As much as I'd like to go see it, I can't afford it (as probably a few other/. readers). Will probably end up waiting for the DVD release (to rent, of course... $4/one night)
But for those that do have the money, as all the other posts here say, GO AND SEE IT! It looks pretty good just reading the reviews and posts.

War is the US' equivalent of an international trade convention for the defense industry...
After all... the US gets to show the world how its new toys perform. War is good for business, after all.

Correction: I found a way to get to the page, but not the one at the ISP, but at the domain.
www.zipaudio.com, click on MP3 hardware. my bad.

Interestingly, no link to pre-order on this webpage...

I used to read /. as A.C., but since these changes, which I really liked (thanks!), I signed up for a /. account. *EXCELLENT*!
According to the same article, it says:
"Lastly, and of most impact to DVD Resource readers, is the word that theater rentals will be prevented for the first eight weeks of the run. "
Guess there goes that idea. Any information on which theatres will be allowed to show ep 1, btw?
