of course not 'just' a Peltier plate. You still need a heatsink, big one. Peltier element simply pumps the heat from it's one side to the other, you still need something to dissipate it. Plus there's the condensation problem, because the temperature on one side get's easily below the ambient temp. And you should be careful not to install the cool side to the sink.:)
can someone please share their insight on how it's actually possible to use an old box for routing 100Mb/s? what kind of NIC's and CPU do you need for this?
my p120 with rtl8139c's can do 12Mb/s at best for forwarded connections with 2.4.9 and simple ruleset. How much would some intel or 3com NIC's help?
I'm using a p120 as a cheap firewall/router/switch and it can't handle more than 12Mb/s for forwarded connections. About ~30Mb/s for connections to itself. The fw rules are really simple. It might be worth trying some $50+ NIC's though. But with a CPU enough to handle 100Mb/s it wouldn't be cheap.
The case here seems to be more like when you get a really good deal from a Junkman and become a regular customer. After finding out the facts about how the Junkman can offer you such a good deal, you ignore it and (YOU) continue to pollute because you are cheap, greedy, ignorant bastard too.
Why do I keep hearing about USA having not ratified this and that? 'Not ratified' is a nice phrase that doesn't sound like "I'm a greedy, weak coward", which it really means in contexts like this, IMHO.
If you're so big and mighty, wouldn't you feel obligated to be the force pushing those conventions and agreements, not the one trying to squeeze out every last buck you can on the cost of the health of our Mother Earth and living conditions of developing countries?
Think Kyoto treaty for example. I'd be embarrassed to live in the States.
I mean HOW LOW CAN YOU GO, USA?
On the other hand, I'm only waiting for people to start showing what they feel about this madness like they did in 60'ies and 70'ies. That's an era that american PEOPLE should be proud of.
Slightly offtopic, but didn't think of a better place to ask. What about Sun's IDE on Blade 100, Netra X1? Would be nice to have one of those for compatibility testing, was just wondering if they're any good otherwise.
s/\bby\b/buy/; And of course I'm not saying we didn't do any original research. The engineers were really good, probably because eduaction had really high standards. That's changed unfortunately, at least here in Estonia with the adoption of international degrees.
I've heard we used to read the architecture of western silicon chips slice by slice. Also there were many IBM and other boxes bought in. Many of which were copied since there wasn't enough money to by them for all the needs.
Except it puts the bread on her table and the roof over her head. And for some people, one's ego and pride in their work is worth it, as well. ego and it's pride is exactly what should't be worth anything to you. especially if you're feeling down.
Getting angry and upset is human, not childish. ego has nothing to do with being human. it's a damn virus _program_ being coded into us from the day we are born by others who are already infected.

uh, isn't alot of stuff in/bin/ used by other programs (scripts) ?
maybe you know something that could beat the central locations for executables and wrappers + $PATH for the simplicity of invocation ?
+ in any decent *x OS there are means to aquire information on the file-package relationships.
why on earth should all this be described in filesystem structure?
For IBM 75GXP & 60GXP hdd's both IBM and Dell have
a Drive Fitness Test and firmware update available
for download. Both obviously use the same software developed by IBM. However, there are a few differences in packaging:)
Dell's package fits on one floppy, and it seems to have resurrected my dead DTLA-307030. (no indication of firmware actually patched, though and it had to erase the whole drive)
IBM's package on the other hand took 2 floppies and never even detected 2 of such drives in the commodity PC I ran it on.
so.. I smell a weirdo conspiracy here.. IBM added some heavyweight code worth almost an entire floppy that could detect if the machine is one of the IBM PC's officially supported by the software:)
over past few weeks I've been amazed why/. editors consider everything 'infamous'..
I mean, who hasn't heard of the crash of Hinderburg zeppelin?
Or is it just that they really teach americans
only about the civil war and make them memorize
the zillion names of US presidents leaving no
memory resources for anything else?:)
not trying to catch flame, just had to ponder it out loud.
maybe you don't realize, what does it mean if you get a 'record' you don't deserve..
in the bright age of computers, this will be the reason for any cop to harass this poor kid for the rest of his life.
though, it's legal for cops in US to touch you from intimate places for no reason anyway;))

In case the extra power consumption doesn't bother you, just buy a Peltier plate. It's quiet.

considering that big manufacturers were ready to implement the new ATA specs for copy-protection, umm .. last year?
