  1. Pricing Strategy on WoW Street Date Announced · · Score: 2

One thing I would love to see for online games would be more variety in pricing strategies. For example, I am not a hardcore gamer, I tend to pick up games, play a lot of it for a week or two, and then move on. Now, if the game was good, I will probably come back in 1-2 months and play some more. My style of playing games makes MMO games very unappealing because on the monthly subscription costs. What I would love to see on MMO games is something where you pay $10-15 or whatever if you want to actively play a game. However, if you're going out of the country for two months, or you don't want to play the game for a few months but you're still interested in playing the game in the future, you could pay something like $.50-$2 to merely store your character. One would not be able to play the game, without making your account active (the $10-15 a month charge), but there would be very limited cost to the game when I'm not playing it.

Now there are a few more issues to work out, i.e. you can't play actively for two days, then go to storage for the next 29 days in the month, then go back to active for 2 days, etc etc. But there should be a workable solution for companies. Sure, they want us to keep paying the full charge, but if it's between cancelling my account for good, or paying $.50 a month if there's a chance I might play in the future, I'll definitely pay the $.50 for the chance I can keep my lvl 30 character for a few months..
Oh well.. I doubt we're going to see any improvement in the payment plans, so I am just wishing..

  2. Re:Some thoughts on laptops on What Kind Of Computer To Bring To College? · · Score: 1

It's pretty simple really. The advantages of a laptop are portability (I really don't recommend bringing one to class, not only are they very distracting in comparison to the professor (i.e. watching a dvd, playing a game, surfing the internet, AIM), but as pointed out, they make a lot of noise, and really annoy most people around you). Portability means that you can take your laptop home for break, out to the grass if it's a really nice day, or to the library if you need to write a paper in silence. I really wish I had bought a laptop for those reasons. Desktops are great for gaming or other intensive CPU activities, but other than that, a laptop is the way to go.

as was brought up farther above, my school owns all lectures that the professor give, so bringing a recording device into class and recording the lecture is against school rules and could be construed as theft from the school, especially if you share it on the internet.

  3. Re:Voiceovers add to, or detract from experience? on Final Fantasy 10 Released in Japan · · Score: 1

I totally agree. One thing that has definitely changed is that no one really dies(of the main characters that is) anymore in the more recent games(at least as far as I have come). In FF2 when the twins sacrificed themselves(when you had been playing with them for a while and had grown to love them) you felt really bad. When the wizard used meteo (knowing he would sacrifice himself) that was truly sad, even more so when his sacrifice did not accomplish his goal. But as the FF series has gone along, I'm feeling more and more distant from the characters. The main character just seems to be a narrator as he guides you through everyone elses story. I mean, Squall in FF8 had no feelings for most of the game and we're just watching everyone else suffering. At the end he has feelings, but he feels like he's just along for the ride. I almost wish that they would kill off more party members, because it really made you mad at the enemy and felt like you had actually lost something. So yes, I vote yes on going back to the classics where the story was amazing and it was a more enthralling tale.

First, let me say that this sort of article should never be read in seriousness. As many people have pointed out, it all depends on who is arguing... or the weather.... or the location of the moon in relation to the sun. Therefore, we can't take this article seriously, so no more complaining about the unfairness of the article.

Second, you have to remember that the average user is generally not the slashdot reader. These articles were not written for us, and so in talking about the cluelessness of the average computer user makes perfect sense. We should not be complaining if we are not the target audience anymore.

  5. Take it before you get left behind on Where Should Company Loyalty End? · · Score: 1

If you currently have two enticing job offers, there is no reason to pass them up. What if all your friends at the company have other job offers already lined up and they have not told you about them. If you continue to stay at your job and reject the job offers, what happens if your friends leave? You are then stuck in a company with no future and you have nowhere to go.
