  1. Re:Wrong way? on Spiral Galaxy Spins the Wrong Way · · Score: 3, Insightful

You should read the article more carefully before you comment next time.

If you did, you'd clearly have noticed that the article said that the outer spiral arms pointed in the direction that they were rotating, and that was the peculiar aspect of this galaxy, not the actual direction of rotation itself.

  2. Re:Farking link? on Preview the New Napster · · Score: 2, Informative

It's probably because the person who submitted this article first got it off of Fark (which had this item before /. did), and simply gave /. the link that Fark had.

I dunno, man... I wouldn't be too happy with either an 8 meg or a 10 meg HD.

Perhaps you meant GB? Or perhaps GiB?

  4. Re:Missed first post... on Online Journalism Same As Print/TV · · Score: 2, Informative

If I post on Slashdot or a community board, do I have these same freedoms?

Well, posts on message boards are opinions, not facts, so your posts on /. and community boards are protected from libel charges and the like.

  5. Re:Was there any question? on Online Journalism Same As Print/TV · · Score: 2, Insightful

IANAL, but the issue here is something like this --

American law is based upon English Common Law, that rulings are based upon legal precedents. Therefore, that a precedent like this is set means that similar cases will use this established precedent.

And the other thing is, it may have been obvious, but a ruling does more or less have to be made if a case goes to the courts, no? And that, then, will establish a precendent anyway.

Although the first link in the article seems to have been thoroughly Slashdotted,

    the space.com link (http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/solarsystem /mars_renderings_011204-2.html)

    and the mars3d.co.uk (http://mars3d.co.uk/)

happen to have some of the images, although not in as high a resolution.

  7. Re:Do the CD thing on It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Quickies · · Score: 1

You can find a closeup image of a microwaved CD here, which accompanies further instructions on microwaving CD's here.

In addition, this site has a page dedicated to microwaving CD's with numerous photos - the link is on the left navigation bar, but the server seems to be a tad slow.

  8. OpenRPG on Interplay Targeted By Bioware-fare · · Score: 1

The correct address for OpenRPG is http://www.openrpg.com, not openrpg.org. In any event, OpenRPG is a generalized Roleplaying system, not something specially tailored to D&D 3e, so its capacities for D&D3e are less than what MT possibly would have had.

  9. Re:Open Gaming Foundationg on Interplay Targeted By Bioware-fare · · Score: 2, Informative

To add to this, the license under which the D20 SRD has been released is the Open Gaming License, available here on the OGF site.

This license gives fairly broad rights to most people willing to build upon the d20 ruleset, almost certainly including non-commercial games, but IANAL, so don't take my word on it.

  10. MasterTools on Interplay Targeted By Bioware-fare · · Score: 2

MasterTools has not been "gutted". It's still in active development, and seems to be on track for release in the first quarter of 2002.

In fact, Ryan Dancey posted updated info regarding the project just two days ago on the WotC Message Boards.

  11. D&D Nitpicking on Interplay Targeted By Bioware-fare · · Score: 5, Informative

AD&D is generally taken to refer to the second edition Dungeons & Dragons Rules.

Neverwinter Nights will be based on the 3rd edition D&D rules (D&D3e), which is different from AD&D.

A link to the 3rd Edition System Reference Document with all the core rules released to the Open Gaming Foundation (including Psionics!) may be found here.

  12. Links on .museum TLDs are Live · · Score: 1

The index.museum page links to each of the subcategories. Some of the links within the subcategories are active, some are not. It seems that the addresses without active links don't work anyway.

It's likely that more and more of the links will be made to work as the addresses become functional.
