  1. Good volume management on What High End Unix Features are Missing from Linux? · · Score: 1

Good volume management. Good patching. Good admin tools. Billions of dollars in R&D testing.

  2. Linux is the next MS on Dell CIO Says "Unix is Dead" · · Score: 1, Interesting

Being a pre-linux supporter it does nothing but bad for Sun, HP, and IBM. Linux spends almost no money in R&D and Sun spends like 2 billion. Stop ripping their shit off and come up with your own stuff or Unix will die.

  5. Hmmm. My data held on a MS server? on The State of Remote Desktops? · · Score: 1

Something tells me my data will never be kept on a MS server of any sort. " Yes sir I would love to send you my resume but Microsoft VB code converted it from ASCII text to Word2k when I loaded it on the file server " There is something that seems bad about letting someone else control your data!

  6. I work for a Telco on Telco Networks Open to Attack? · · Score: 1, Informative

I work for a Telco and our security is terrible. The only time something gets replaced is when you can no longer get parts. Most of the hardware switched stuff like actual line circuits are in good shape but someone could cause lots of bad things to happen having access to billing and switching servers. The stuff that actual send commands to those switches telling them what to do!

  8. LINUX UNIX BLA BLA BLA on Why Free Software is a Hard Sell · · Score: 1

Has anyone ever stopped and looked and looked at where Linux started? I doubt anyone ever said man this will make a great desktop OS someday. There is no money in the desktop for Linux. They should concentrate on the server market. Unix is cryptic as well as Linux but then it is not meant for you average CompuSA , Best buy shopper or whatever. You must obtain a certain level of knowledge before trying to work with it. I think its great that all the Linux companies want you to think it is a peice of pie but its not. Neiter is Linux, you want easy go buy Windows. Any idiot can operate a NT workstation it takes knowledge about the inner workings of software and network protocols to operate a Unix server. It was designed by engineers for engineers. There is a reason why Sun and HP's Unix training catalog is over 50 pages!!! ITS NOT EASY! Nor is it supposed to be. If it were easy none of us would be special and any joe bob could get our jobs.

I hope more people read your comment. I hate to say it but you might just be close to right dude. I love Linux in everyway, and since I have become a UNIX admin over lots of HP and Sun stuff I have really seen it is not viable for certain things. J

  12. Windows 2000 alot better but..... on Microsoft, Unisys & Dell To Make New Voting System · · Score: 1

I would have to say from experiance win2k is a pretty sharp product. Overall it seems a hell of alot better then its counter parts, but if it were up to me then I would have to choose a Unix variant of some sort for this project. I don't even know if I would scream use Linux on this one. Maybe Sun, or HP should handle this project since its our tax dollars.. The only thing that seems shaddy to me is the fact we just got done suing ol bill now we are going to let him earn all his money back from us.. wonder what he will charge the American people for the priviledge to use his MS Voting Software.
