  1. Is prosecuting end users bad? on Copyright Infringement In the News · · Score: 2, Insightful

This isn't flamebait. I hate the RIAA/MPAA and will continue to do what I can to prevent them from castrating technology to the point where its just another content delivery system.

That being said, is prosectuting end users for copyright violation bad in itself?

The absurd technological measures that they are proposing to "protect" their content will have far reaching and long lasting implication on what we can do with our hardware (whether or not I ever load file sharing software or "consume" any of their content).

Prosecuting someone who shares a bunch of teeny-pop (who is probably a minor) seems to be a much less damaging use of their money.

Actually in the US, companies are allowed to prepare two sets of financial statements...one for tax purposes and one for shareholders.

This among many other gray areas in Generally Accepted Accounting Principals make the line between fraud (read: illegal) and creative accounting particularly blurry.

People who develop websites seem to agree: Netscape has been a nightmare to develop for.

IE had the luxery of being able to focus on standards compliance (from a functionality standpoint) while Netscape was forced to differentiate itself by coming up with extra functionality in order to fend off M$...In my experience Netscapes implementation of style sheets has been abysmal until recently.

That said, I've been using Mozilla since the 1.0 release on both my windoze system at work and my linux box at home...both have performed well in almost all situations.

Acually, cars are not harder to work on, its just that more sophisticated equipment is needed. IMHO, computer controlled vehicles have taken the skill out of auto repair, now you plug a diagnostic tool into the on boad diagnostic module, it leads you to the problem...so instead of a tech, you've got a parts swapper...

All vehicles are required to comply with OBD-II, which is a standard for the way the vehicle monitors performance and emissions. This creates a strict set of parameters for vehicle operations...performance modifications often take the vehicle out of these parameters and causes the control system to report a problem...if the discrepency is great enough, the vehicle will often go into "limp-in" mode, shutting down all systems other than those necessary for the vehicle to drive to the nearest service station...

    Here's a good summary of OBD-II
