actually all the BSD's support ata-100 nativly.:)
and as for kernel 2.4.0 if u go with BSD u don't have to worry about it.
of course i'd probably go with downloading the iso for slackware 7.2 when it arives, install base and Gcc then download all the source...
and compile from there...
