Let's not forget that what is really biting Intel in the ass is their decision to ramp up the clock and have a huge pipeline which owed a whole lot more to marketing than sound design.
When Pentium IVs came out they were slower in actual performance than Pentium IIIs and this is a strange thing indeed from new and supposedly better design.
Now that consumers have stopped buying based on clock speed alone (as neither AMD or Intel talk loudly about it anymore) Intel's marketing value decreased to a point where they had to ditch Pentium brand.
I don't know for you, but flat panels make my head hurt. Literally. I know they're the latest craze and all, but I get one big headache after 1 or 2 hours AutoCADing with one. I can go a lot longer with my 10 year old 21" CRTs without headaches. I guess it's the light source or something, because I tend to get headaches with neon lighting as well
One possible reason for such a headache is if your vision is slightly off. As you concentrate on the screen your eyes try to focus, but since they cannot do it fully the tension persists. The effect is pretty sensitive, so some people can read screens fine and are not aware their vision is in any way off, but get a headache if they do it for several hours.
So I would suggest trying a new pair of glasses or lenses.
Power Corrupts and Absolute Power Corrupts Aboslutely. With Linus heading the Linux community and many people view him like a 'god' how big is his head these days?
Oh, get lost people ! - precisely what kind of power is that ? Is anyone obliged to follow ? Get a grip and exercise your "defiance of authority" mode someplace where it matters (or quietly if you are only practicing).
Instead of tracking everyone that travels (and violating privacy) why not have an easier solution - have everyone wear a face mask (like in hospitals) in public places ?
Poof, the usual way to get infected is gone.
Is there anything out there equivalent to windows update? Windows wins this one
Which distribution are you running ? If Slackware then look at swaret or apt-get.
Debian, Ubuntu, Mandrake, Suse and Redhat all have network update application built-in and far superior to Windows one - it is used to install and update all of the applications on the system and not just some OS dlls and web browser.
I heard of an interesting device they used in Soviet Russia to heat water.
There all the heat was central - to the point of having one water heating plant per large part of the city and as you can imagine it worked for about one month in the winter before the water pipes in the ground burst.
So what some people did was separate two razor blades with two matches, connect to two separate wires (220 AC) and place under the faucet.
The current going through the water heats it up and when razor blades corrode you simply replace them - but this does not happen too fast as they are made from stainless steel.
The fact is that employment market in math and science is very tough as it is. There are simply not that many positions available for doing research.
From those positions that are available the majority (if not all) are teaching-oriented and make it a lot harder to contribute to new technology.
Lastly, to the person in a graduate school - yes, optimism is useful.
And it does help you that you are not from US (as both school and undergrad science education in US is very bad, at least as far as mathematics is concerned).
But I have seen a lot more well-educated Chinese and Indian students
than US ones in gradate school. Well-educated to the point of doing research when they come in as opposed to native US students (just as bright) that needed to take 2-3 years of courses to catch up.
I think US position as technology leader is largely due to business agility and the body of research developed during cold way.
There is one more thing to worry about - the particular patent abounds with junk terms like "vacuum pressure".
This is bad, because inventor was supposed to disclose the invention to obtain a patent and this implies using established terminology to describe it.
Allowing a patent with made up terms is equivalent to allowing wildcards "I patent a thing * that does * and is useful" - the owner of the patent can try to define these terms as legal opportunity presents itself.
My view was that having articles with both titles would indicate the range of possible views for regular readers as well as have similar impact on sporadic readers.
Foxnews did fess up, but I don't think this was enough.
If someone runs an article with a title "Massachusetts Should Close Down OpenDocument" (which is a rather one-sided title) then I feel the correcting article should have a title like "Everyone should drop Microsoft"
There are two parts of the equation: technology and talent. Unfortunately for us technology minded folks, the tech is about 1% of the equation.
Paint and brushes are also cheap. Anybody can go out to the local art supply store and purchase some rather high quality brushes and paints and not break the bank. Despite the low cost, it is rare to see any works of art coming out of the local high school that I would want to hang on my wall.
I always thought that the 90% part was patience to learn what sounds good and the social skills to find out what other people enjoy.
However, we should not be forgetting that anyone who likes *some* music already has function(music)return(emotion) and the trick is inverting it.
So the really exciting tech that lets anyone with a taste for music create tunes that they like is still waiting to be created.
The question I have to ask is why are we looking for planets?! It's almost as if we've totally leapfrogged the part where we actually find a way to get INTO space and TO planets.
All part of the plan..
Imagine the reaction of the government if someone discovers planet with possible signs of life (just life, not sentient..).
I had no idea they were still doing manual builds. Was it so hard to borrow tinderbox ?
Still, after the changes it takes several *days* for the build - this is likely an indication of interdependency of different components, otherwise they could have used a cluster to do it.
They decided to start from scratch - I'll believe it when I see it. (Hint to Microsoft - Apple used BSD..)
The math is correct and the expressions he is using are really just a rational parametrization of the circle - you can find two rational expressions x=R(t) and y=Q(t) that will trace out a circle as t goes along real line.
However, people use angles for a reason - the angle variable just measures the arc cut out on a circle of unit radius. So, it would be rather hard to compute angular momentum in terms of spread, or say, define a periodic monochromatic signal (for which you are much better off using sin() and cos()
The most important point is that the worse thing a teacher can do is dumb down the material - the students feel it and are a lot less interested. If someone has trouble accepting trigonometric functions as is, teach them algebra of complex numbers (useful also as miniature version of vector algebra) and then explain Euler's formula.
The change is part of a semi-yearly update to Microsoft's Secure Development Lifecycle policies by engineers within Microsoft's Security Business & Technology Unit

A few suggestions:
No you can't, but never worry - you have copyright on its imprint.
They have an electron gun that shoots electrons the same way the ions go, so the net charge is close to 0.

Just shows there is rightfully more than one level of membership in A.A.
No, it says "Windows ME".
4,400 mathematics and science PhDs

My pardon.. I did not know this was used for Casimir's force.

Who is working on Open Source replacement of SAP ?
Anyone has any idea what it was supposed to mean ?
Then, they could publish a more balanced piece.

As opposed to the quarterly update by managers ?
