Extraordinary Bad Luck? Then so do many people I know, myself included. It once took three weeks for a 2-3 day (average) delivery to arrive. I guess 9 other people got 1 day delivery to make the average right;)

As a fellow non-voter, I disagree (eligable for 15 years, never voted). The plethora of voter initiatives certainly indicates that the marketing people are interested in tapping an unexplored niche. Also, apathy is a political stance, the only viable one in which the goals (none) are reached every time.

    You say:

They may have the means to spray a little lighter fluid on a nearby sun without killing themselves, (no small feat, I admit), but they may well be no further along than us in terms of actual interstellar travel and communications.

So they are going to blow up their own sun in order to send an omnidirectional signal? Or perhaps it is some sort of protest, akin to the monks lighting themselves on fire to protest the Viet Nam War? Please. It's an astronomical phenomena that we don't understand yet; that does not imply, or even hint, that it is somehow the work of ETs with an interesting Tech Level progression and a deathwish.

Yeah, I wondered about that too. Apparently the guy didn't understand conventional cooling methods, so decided to try something completely different.

Mineral oil? It has a very low electrical conductivity; otherwise, the board would short out. However, it also has a very low thermal conductivity, which means the components not directly in the garden pump path are probably net effect being heated.

There's also the pressure problem. What's the MTBF while being hit with 170 gallons/hour? MB components weren't designed, nor were they attached, with that kind of abuse in mind. My suspicion is that he'll get a critical failure inside a week of continuous use.

In the "relativistic realm", you can't just add velocities. This is a property of the Lorentz transformation, which is the correct one to use in Special Relativity (SR). It is the Galliean transformation, useful at more mundane speeds, where one can just add velocities.
