It's hard for me to believe that, just because of the recent press on IE's huge problems, MS busted ass to quickly create a modo patch for it. They didn't give a damn before, so why do they now?
I'm not saying I honestly think Magic Lantern is in the patch. I'm just pointing out that there must be some other motivation for MS to do this...
My money says it's some high-school chess team... all 15 of them crowded around a computer and having a collective laugh at Mr. Nigel Short(sighted)'s expense.
Yeah. And I played Pong with Aristotle yesterday.

Bobby Fischer Online?

I just heard a story on NPR about this Bobby Fischer thing...
Nigel Short (the man claiming to be playing against Bobby Fischer) has no evidence whatsoever, just blind & hopeful inferences.
He hasn't even done something as simple as asking his opponent "Are you Bobby Fischer?" His 'evidence' seems to be that the opponent's style of play is sort-of like Fischer's... And the opponent is "very polite."
That's brilliant!! Using the same methodology, I can prove that all the polite squirels on this planet are actually reincarnate-clones of Humphrey Bogart! Cool!
The profound idiocy of the human race astounds me on a daily basis....and that fact that it's coming from Short - a chess grandmaster - just makes it even more depressing.
Yay! Another excuse for police to harass anyone they choose for no reason at all.
I have a better idea. Why don't we just start putting newborn babies straight into prison. We'll leave them there until they can prove that they're not criminals, not smarter than anyone else, not capable of individual thought, and incapable of breaking any law or implied morality-flavor-of-the-week. We'll just forget about that "innocent until proven guilty" crap - it's practically gone anyway.
What the hell is with this enormous new trend of obliterating personal freedom?? I'm not saying it's okay for some dumbass to drive drunk - that's a given. Why is it becoming necessary for the "athorities" to monitor a citizen's every breath (now, literally), under the assumption that we're not capable of making personal decisions without parent-like intervention?
I can understand a legitimate use as a punishment/monitor for repeat DUI offenders, but nothing else.
...And just think about how many Tipper Gore types would gladly lobby for a device like this to be mandatory on all motor vehicles.
This is different because these stem cells are derived from unfertilized cell clusters in a pre-embryonic state. They're not even full embryos yet - just a cell mass.
Here's a analogy for you: chicken eggs.
Is that egg you fry for breakfast being robbed of it's life potential? No! Why? Because it's unfertilized - it's just a cell mass.
Here's another one: the human female menstrual cycle.
Are billions of women accross the world murdering their unborn children because of their natural cycle? Of course not. The embryos are unfertilized - which makes them a useless cell mass. Therefore, the body expells them.
The irrationality of the mass public astonishes me on a daily basis.
Something everyone (/. included) seems to be forgetting:
Bush didn't "allow" stem cell research. He doens't have the power to allow or disallow it.
He merely approved federal funding for stem cell research. All this means is that the gov't will throw some cash toward this type of thing, and will therefore put stipulations on the particulars of what it's paying for.
Privately funded research on stem cells can do whatever the hell it wants. Bush's decision has little or no bearing on the legality of this kind of research as a whole.
Every bit I hear, see, and read from the media makes it sound as though the decision to totally ban all stem cell research, or allow all stem cell research is in the hands of the Prez. Um.. No. It doesn't work like that. This whole thing is just about money. Will the gov't pay for it? Bush says yes.
Ads pay for my newspaper, the major tv networks, and the radio stations I listen to...all paid for by advertising. Why would anyone want to go to the trouble of paying to listen to a poor-quality RealAudio 'radio' broadcast of a game when they could just use a standard radio?
If I'm out of the broadcase range, I could see the point in listening to a netcast, but there's no way in hell I'd pay $10 to listen to something that's aired for free to anyone within range. ...and I don't see hardware/bandwidth costs to the broadcaster as a legitimate excuse for a $10 fee to listeners. FM and AM stations got around this problem decades ago - what makes the current regime think they're too good to do the same?
It's just the idea that "we can make them pay for it, so we will. The issue of wether or not we SHOULD means nothing."
"The CN Tower was completed in 1975, and took the title of world's tallest building from the Moscow TV Ostankino Tower. The 185-story, reinforced concrete building was designed by Australian architect John Andrews, and reaches a height of 553.34 m. (1,815 ft. 5 in.). Its record-breaking status was a by-product of its main function, to send and receive microwave signals without blockage from Toronto's existing skyscrapers. Two million people visit the CN Tower annually."
The Sears tower is "1,454 feet high - 1,707 feet including twin antenna towers," according to www.sears_tower.com.... and CN's 1,815 ft. obviousbly beats it.
We all know what happens when you put a credit-card or other magnetic stripe card on a tag eraser pad - the mag. stripe gets jacked.
How can you use an RF field to burn out one of these tags if the tag is installed on a delicate electronic device? You'll cook the whole thing, not just the tag. Even if this would work and not harm the product, what's stopping the manufacturer from building stronger tag circuits to prevent comsumers from deactivating them?
This is NOT a good thing. The possibility (certainty) of abuse is too great.

And what the hell does that have to do with this editorial???
Take your consipracy theories elsewhere.
Apparently, it's not that difficult.

Here - Guiness has a different opinion:
