Don't be so quick point out the coal fired plants low pollution. The Gorge is being slammed with acid rain and fog most likely attributed to the pollutive triumvirate of the PGE Coal Plant and a massive factory farm to the east and the constant vehicle emssions in the gorge and to the west in Portland. That plant is NOT/ operating up to current Clean Air regs:
The PGE coal plant, constructed 30 years ago with controls then considered current, does not have to comply with federal Clean Air Act rules that would apply to plants built today. It received an exemption from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in 1975 two weeks before sweeping regulations went into effect. That exemption was later declared by EPA in a related court proceeding to be a mistake. The power plant is now among the dirtiest in the region, lacking scrubbers that are typically standard on such plants built today. Let's sugarcoat the dirty coal plants, please. It doesn't do much but harm.

How is that any different? Shouting FIRE in a crowded place requires the action of others for bodily injury to be possible! If the people don't panic and run for the exit, then no one gets hurt...
Much like if you provide a link (shouting "here is DeCSS!") It requires the action of another to go and physically get the program.
    So, your point was?

Disclaimer: This does not mean that I agree with the courts/gov/big business, but I'm sick of seing flawed logic on this site.

Cheap or good. Quality or quantity ("It's a choice you have to make!"Bad Religion anyone?). These are actually not always exclusive of each other. I used to have @home broaband service. There was a definate choice there, and it was not on the side of good quality. I now use Prestige.net, in Georgia, and have been extremely impressed. Even after being bought out by Adelphia (not a huge isp, but big nonetheless), I continue to be impressed...All the while paying very competitive prices for my service. I still can talk to service reps on irc. I get immediate help when theres a problem (though, I usually don't have many). And, believe it or not, they even upped the download speeds after the takeover! I have to say that I have the benefit of still having a small local isp thats connected to a large one, so I end up with the best of both worlds.

It comes down to doing your research, and doing it well. So the real issue here is laziness of the consumer...which usually leads to big isp's (that are not always the cheapest), with shitty service. Big companies have always capitalized on the laziness of their consumers. Some things never change.

So, stop bitching about your big isp, and do some research. I know not everyone has a lot of choices when it comes to isp's, mostly a result of geographical location. But, you always have some choice.

    Sigs suck.

And I bet the Giant's offense won't just hand the ball over to Baltimore. What a bunch of bad guys they are.

Let's carry on that analogy. You're absolutely right, the Giants shouldn't agree to just hand over the ball to Baltimore. They spend cash and resource to learn how to play better ball, and how to exploit the weaknesses of other teams. Just the same, there's no reason that M$ should agree to hand over all information and technologies on which they have spent millions in R&D. That's how captalism works and drives companies to create better and better products, just like teams striving to be better and better. But there are rules in any system. Baseball has salary caps to (hopefully) keep teams from forming "monopolies" in the league, by creating the best team, which then creates oodles more money, and *would* allow them to buy the best players, thus continuing their dominance and in the process destroying competition in the league. Antitrust laws, at their conception were designed for the same purpose-- To foster competition. So, the problem with M$ is not analogous to handing over a ball...its more an issue of regulating how much control they have over the marketplace, based on dominance. Once one company (baseball team) gains that kind of dominance in the marketplace, the start to bend exitsting laws (league rules) and begin to control that which they are participating in. That is a bad scenario, plain and simple. Would you watch baseball if the Giants (actually, an analogy to the Yankees may be better here) dictated the rules in the league, thereby reinforcing their dominance in the league they regulate? I doubt it. We all bitch enough as it is... Also, note that it is okay to be dominant and learn to exploit the weaknesses of competitors--thats the point of competition. But the problem arises when the dominance allows you to bend regulation and get away with not following the rules. So, there's your comparision. Do with it what you will. Nicks suck. Like mine?
