It sounds like exactly what the op is looking for. They even have free day-passes every weekend.

I believe the EPA numbers for my car are something like 25/30. I still get 30-32 on highway trips, depending on the number of hills, and how twisty the road is. Not bad for a 14 year old car.

Since when did EVERY one get the right to everything they want.

I don't expect to get everything I want. I do, however, expect to keep the freedoms I've been granted and guaranteed by the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. That's what it's there for. If you read my earlier posts, you'll see what the Charter says, and the condition it may be suspended under, which I do not believe have been met.

I think it's admirable that he's pointing out a law that, in the age of the internet, is not only unenforceable, but violates the Charter.

  6. Re:Can't you read? on Canada Police Execute Search Warrant over Election Results · · Score: 1

I have spent a fair ammount of time reading both the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and the Canada Elections act, in order to come to my opinion on this matter.

The clause you quoted states that our rights can be suspended if it is "demonstrably justified in a free and democratic society". In a free society, I do not believe it is justifiable to suspend a citizens rights if there is another option. The results can be kept entirely secret, and not made public until all polls across the country are closed. With this option available, I do not think it is "demonstrably justified" that our Charter be cast aside for the convenience of eastern voters. If Canada is truly a "free and democratic society", we should create laws that do not take away our freedoms.

  7. Unenforceble laws on Canada Police Execute Search Warrant over Election Results · · Score: 2
Why does Elections Canada insist on attempting to enforce such an unenforcable law? In this age of internet connectedness, it's simply impossible to keep things like this under wraps. It's not illegal to tell someone in the US the results, and it's not illegal for them to post the results on their
    non-Canadian webserver.

    Guarantee of Rights and Freedoms

    1. The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms guarantees the rights and freedoms set out in it subject only to such reasonable limits prescribed by law as can be demonstrably justified in a free and democratic society.

    Fundamental Freedoms

    2. Everyone has the following fundamental freedoms:

    (a) freedom of conscience and religion

    (b) freedom of thought, belief, opinion and expression, including freedom of the press and other means of communication.

    (c) freedom of peaceful assembly; and

    (d) freedom of association.

I'm not a legal expert, by any stretch of the imagination. As a Canadian citizen, however, my understanding of the above excerpt from the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms says that the Elections Act gag law preventing the "transmission to the public" of the results from a closed poll violates the Charter.

I say good luck, I hope he wins and they repeal the law, in favor of something that makes a little more sense, and doesn't infringe on our freedoms.

I've run an ony 486/66 /w 32mb RAM as a gateway, local nameserver, and http caching proxy for about 4 months with minimal problems. If speed is your only concern, put it out of your mind. A 486 like that, regargless of network card, should be able to easily out perform the speeds of a cable modem.

Not entirely true. If all you need to do is boot up with networking and telnet to another machine, 80mb is plenty of room. I've run a stripped down version of Debian that has networking support (with telnetd and ftpd) in a 50mb partition.

  12. Hmm. on Do it yourself MP3 Stereo · · Score: 1

I'm acctually working on a project that's quite similar. I've got a p90 under the passenger seat in my car, playing mp3s. The p90 plays any quality I've tested (up to 192kbps) just fine, with a bit of room to spare. I'm hooking up an LCD as well (www.matrix-orbital.com) and an IR remote control like a TV remote. I tried a 486 DX2-66, but it doesn't play 128kbps without downsampling. I'm using mpg123 to play, and it's got an old one speed caddy-loading cdrom. I also managed to find room to cram an old 512K Trident video card, and a PCI network card in there. It's running a *very* stripped down "distro" of linux... no /sbin/init... runs a bash script instead. =) If anyone wants more info, send me a line and I'de be happy to reply.
