reading the manual is not very difficult. a society built on eye candy and the grabbag box will not find linux very appealing. it is because of the clear fact that maybe communities in education wants something they can trust.

if they have never used linux then it is more the case of fear. teach people that computers are nothing to be afraid of and they are boundless to the blindfolds of any corporate gimme-gimme.

and how are idiot parents who trust their vendors going to wake up one day and say out of the blue: "oh, i think i'll log what my child does on AOL!"

come on, give me a break though, i bet half the families i'm in within 50 miles of would care to administrate their home computers this way.

i went about this the wrong way. the point i'm trying to make here is that i guess maybe most parents don't want to make the time and effort to go out of their way to prevent some bad atrocity of the internet. suppose we make the entire internet completely pure of all these "bad" things in our society.

it isn't going to happen. not now and probably not tomorrow. my only solution for a mother's problem with her child falling into some dismal porn pit is to unplug her machine.

you're always going to have someone complain!

true. by using technology to replace something that ought to be taken care of by old-fashioned parenting, we will probably end up seeing some children borrowing/(purchasing?) hardware hacks for this stuff. it's not a really great forecast on this V-chip 'globalization'.
However, i am just indifferent to this since all of this censorship and electronic guidance will make a far stranger world than what is presently known. maybe the RIAA will get involved too? (Yes, I will agree.. i hope not)

of course with the usage of popular open-source operating systems (e.g., linux) there will be a lot of ulcers for the RIAA and the government to complain about.

oh, and just remember: when the government oversteps its bounds - the people will let it know. it's just a matter of time before something as silly as "file-sharing" starts an uproar.

ok, i don't get it. i'm assuming you might be wiccan, so i'll just state this...

you do not accept responsibility for your actions and feelings. you blame other people and corporations for them. you are anorexic because you sleep around too much. you make yourself a bloated fish and you are every reason in this fucked up world why we have tattletales and impudent asses who publicly can't keep their mouths shut about stupid crap.

i apologize for not replying in gold, but you my wiccan-email-powered friend are a conglomeration of social idiocy and downright awfulness. your mother should be proud and your teachers will gladly smile upon your face when you trip and bust your ass on some dude's penis.

    sorry. here, i'll start over:

I can assure you that what I went through is not a fiction. It was the most scarring experiance of my life.

i don't know what to say about that.
    it's complete selfishness.
it's all mental. you are mental.
you hate this forum. this forum, in turn, hates you for your shallow, sex-driven life. nobody appreciates an ass-wetter. anorexia nervousa is a laughing matter when it is YOU who makes others do the same with your very, very, VERY poor example.

you need to take responsibility for yourself and make sure you are the only one to blame. this goes for everyone and anyone who talks about murdering people in class can be really drunk too. i say stupid shit when i'm high all the time (i accept responsiblity for that; i played counterstrike for an hour and a half. i lost the game!)

so anyway, the fact still remains - someone's always responsible, but when it comes to making personal decisions in any global or private matter concerning that someone, it is that certain someone's responsibility. if they are wise, they will accept it and not blame the media or their parents for their shortcomings.

"wiccans". i wish in the future that i will never see an email address like that again.

sorry for the dab o' flame. i just hated that bitch's comment. peace folks.

wait a minute, i have a problem... if the linux industry quits, does that mean that microsoft.com won't resolve for a while? (just a thought.) anyway, on another note... i find linux much more pleasant and easier to use than microsoft windows nt. if you configure everything right the first time, you won't see any surprises. lovely how microsoft has the gall to say that such a powerful operating system is not worthy of use for the mass majority. if i'm not mistaken, this is just a small opinion i have. i say never let me be complete. give me a unix-like operating system any day. i like linux, bsd, and solaris. who needs to see commercials about an operating system? nobody understands them and they have a hard time figuring out why. a lot of people in my area of town have gotten lazy with computers. i have only seen them messing around with windows. they should be more outgoing and a bit less cocky on user friendliness. user friendliness has nothing to do with anything. it is just a marketing ploy to get people to buy their product. it is just some relative element in someone's psych that gives them a good reason for being incompetant about their work. if anyone hardly payed attention to the number of BSOD's or STOP messages that can appear, they'll know something is /wrong/. and i stress that metaphorically. microsoft suggests that maybe the linux community should disband? is this a joke, folks? i'm laughing. microsoft threw mud in our faces and what we did was truly noble and very warranted. we got back up and laughed at them, because we know how silly microsoft can be when they are intimidated by something "like us". just wait, just by our example more and more open source agencies will rise and make themselves known to the public. my personal opinions about windows nt/9x are very personal. i can't expect anyone, however, to not ignore them. just think about how far we have come. we're doing a damn good job getting linux on the desktop, and it can't get any easier for some random new user to easily set up X or get good shell experience. it can get better, yes; but we are already making linux a success for a lot of people. microsoft wants to make an operating system that requires no thought put into its operation whatsoever, am i not correct? i believe most of the great attributes of using a computer (e.g., clear thought) were better then than now. today we are facing some arrogant corporation's dictation, tomorrow we will see a penguin and a devil on a surfboard kicking a colorful flag's wavy ass. it is good to know that a satirical column like this makes a good laugh. we all needed one, right? just a few thoughts. and i am illiterate.
