I would say that Windows desktop is not ready. I have been using Linux systems for over two years with little problems. My windows boxes have always been problems. Where is the ssh client? Even better where is the sshd server? Once those questions have been answered then it might be ready. Until then it is just a games machine.
It is great. You can do virtual web hosting yourself. You can connect with ssh. Perl, mysql, and sendmail are all installed. You can even configure them for your needs.

I like to add domains to my hosts file from ads sites domains to goto 127.0.0.1.
People will still buy the product no matter what the cost.
FreeBSD also drops support of old versions. It all depends on what your company can do.
