    I dont think tis is true. When I signed up with telocity I just gave them a credit card over they phone and they mailed me the modem. Since I am running linux I never installed the software that came with the modem.

    Or maybe there was some phone number thing i cant remember, but I'm pretty sure there was no contract or even service agreement, and I am absolutly positive i have never signed anything.

    Also it seems like when I started the account one of the reasons I went with telocity was FREE HARDWARE and FREE INSTALLATION, of course they never showed up to install it.

    BTW their service has been outstanding.I have had very few network problems.Once the modem quit working they had a replacement sitting on my front poarch the next day.

    You should try the new mandrake 8.0 it was the easiest O.S. install I have tried in a long time, if not ever. You can get an ISO HERE.

    Finally we can get rid of that all your base crap and trade it for "It operates with the playstation 2 the linux" not only do I have to see that base crap on slashdit all day I was up town this morning and someone had written it on the chalk board at a local pizza joint.

    I have benn working on something similar to this. But my main problem is the resolution from my tv out card is not good enough for reading from across the room. This makes it tougher to control the system.Right now i have the computer behind the couch and a 15" monitor on a small table.I have been looking for a smaller monitor of some type but havnt found anything I can afford.
