how many times I retyped a program because I bumped that 16k RAM pack and lost it all....
There were too many times that happened to me, so I soldered the ram pack directly to the back. That, and adding more aluminum to the voltage regulator heat sink made it very reliable. Things were great until I developed larger programs enough to notice anything greater than about four kilobytes would freeze. Turned out there was a bit stuck on a 1 in RAM about 4K in one of the chips. RAM was expensive back in those days. It cost me $49 for 16 kilobytes (and that was cheap!)
Going further, when the RIAA does "tax" cdr's, that will make it ok to copy thier client's material?
I think the RIAA and MPAA are the pirates. Some people want to use mass storage to record personal events, not some crappy commercial canned entertainment. They pillage our technologies and abilities to record our own performances just so they can stuff thier coffers.
but you haven't considered what it makes to produce 5.2 gigs of content.
Family videos?
Recordings of local garage bands?
Recordings at sporting events from the helmetcams?
Video of the party this weekend?
I can think of many ways to fill up a DVDR. Bring them on! Just because the music industry claims I can't make a legitimate use of mass storage technology doesn't mean I can't.
ICANN's website has always been slow or non-functional. Is ICANN really the future of the net if it ca'nt stay up? Is it a poorly managed site, or just a plot to rig the votes by making the site unavailable to the public?
Well, I've got my PIN code ready, but they aren't. Anyhow, if I ever do get into that blasted site, any recommendations who to vote for?
Bullshit. Local bands play for local communities and sell cool merchandise. Support them and enjoy a real party. Otherwise, you are just paying for the gorilla music industry that wants to ban versitile music recorders.
Good places to look for the latest CPU performance might be to look at the RC5 statistics or the Performance Database Server. Tasty performance numbers in terms I can digest are found there.
I had a speeding ticket and argued it was so technical and esoteric that the judge couldn't understand. He told me to get the hell out of his courtroom.
I'd like to see someone kill me at a range of fifty yards using only...
You would, eh? Why do I always see this argument? Is this supposed to be some kind of game, where you can kill the most people from farthest away? Yeah, a rifle was made to do that job. But people do gather together every day at the office, the stores, etc. A skilled maniac with a hammer can kill faster than your typical first person shooter with a rifle. With a rifle, you have to carefully aim for each shot, otherwise those high powered rounds just rapidly punch holes off target. Might as well bludgen the victims with the barrel. Violent video games should teach you this fact.
More tax trivia... In Mississippi, one doesn't have to pay motor vehicle taxes if it was bought from a relative, even though I bought it from my Missouri mom.
So now, if I ever want to see a movie in the future, it has to be on an MPAA approved machine and software? Even if its operation in the near future requires connection to a telephone for activation? If thier devices are buggy and crash after watching the manditory 10 minutes of commercials at the beginning of each movie?
No, its not a publicity stunt. No, computer failures for new owners are not rare. I have seen many people stuck with computers that don't work shortly after delivery. Sometimes I save the day, sometimes I just feel sad for them.
Its time engineers started bulletproofing computer designs and software. That might be a new concept for those who live in Redmond. Investing in quality assurance now will save everyone from having to wait on hold through levels of voice recordings, tech support, return information, and credit card protection. Believe me, consumer protection is needed.
If we have higher expectations of quality, business will thrive due to increased consumer confidence. Joe Consumer will no longer be afraid of buying a lemon and declining a purchase.

I got a lot of use out of that little computer.

That link is amazing. Search for the word "don't" --it comes from Valenti's mouth on the witness stand more times than I can click "next"
He doesn't know what the hell is going on or admits to much of it.
...by replacing it with a RED screen of death.
No, Microsoft has replaced it with something even better. Yessir! Good things are comming from Redmond these days.

You are on to something. Where I work, management is one step closer to the door.

I hope there is not a law against satire.

Here's a formula I use for determining what CPU to get:
(Speed in MHz)/(power in watts)
Take the CPU with the highest number.
If you want to rig the tally counter:
x &target=http://www.slashdot.org
watch wget http://www.microsoft.com/isapi/redir.dll?prd=linu
this makes a request to microsoft every two seconds. It doesn't do the redirection, but just makes the request from microsoft's site.

But what does that person have a rifle for anyway then?
A rifle is insignificant if that person can kill you with his hands and arbitrary nearby objects.
Just because there's a clause in a license or contract, does not mean that it's enforceable.
Then just what is a license good for?

I don't want to speculate with dark humor, but I woke up with a bad dream from an afternoon nap:
Napster was a deliberate plant by the RIAA and MPAA and carefully managed like a stage puppet to set a legal precident.
Now that would be scary.
What if someone were to embed the DeCSS code into a Word macro virus?
"I love you DeCSS!"
Four words: Don't use Microsoft Word.
That doesn't bode well with Bill Gates' World Domination Plan (tm).

lemme guess: notepad?
Nope, it terminates each line with CR/LF.
