Could the opposite of autism be schizophrenia? It talked about an autistic person taking several seconds to pay attention to a change in surroundings, say someone walking in the room. It seems a person who is autistic is very good at concentrating on one thing at a time. I know someone who seems to be the opposite:
I had a chance to see a behavior that was quite different than autism at my family reunion. You see, an uncle of mine is schizophrenic. It was over 20 years since I have seen him and expected him to be a total nut. He used to be a straight A and got degrees in physics and mathematics, but at a point in his life, something changed.
He now seems to only do things 15 seconds at a time. A typical day would include playing a great piece on the piano for a moment, goes for a quick walk down the street, stops for several seconds, continues for a moment, etc. Repeat several hundred times and that would be his day. Always distracted. Surprisingly, he is very intelligent and is fun to talk with --not the most productive conversationalist, but he is very likeable and has the most innovative approaches to ideas. He can not hold a job or drive a car due to being distracted constantly by the busy way he views the world around him.
ideally, we could just censor all the ads on our tv's and life would be nice.
There is a way this can be done. I remember an old Zenith television that would mysteriously blank the screen when the advertisements would start. The only way to get the picture back was to cycle the power switch.
I later found out why the television was doing this. It was the "fade to black" video editing when they would switch to the advertisements that would trigger this event. There was something wrong with the blanking circuit on the television that would latch the whole picture for good when the darkness levels reached that threshold. Very few times during a movie would this happen. I would have to say it was quite a great misfeature in that old television; unfortunately, it worked for the video, not the audio that is the most annoying attribute of advertisements.
Its been a while since I worked on televisions, but if they still do fade to black editing at the levels like they used to, a simple circuit could be made to squelch the audio until a reset button or the next edit occurred. It would be a level detector connected to one of the video test pins usually found on the main board, connected to either a latch or a flip flop. Have a pushbutton to reset the state.
The v-chip blocking commercials, infommercials, and the often repeated station id ego might do more than protect little children. It would prevent my mind from rotting having to watch the senseless crap after already paying good money by the month for programming in the first place. Seems like they would have advertisements to support the advertisements if they could get away with it. Cable and satellite television is a big scam. Just wait until television will have interactive v-chips and require you to click on the ads to see the next scene. Its only a matter of time...
At work, one of the office workers had to go home because of epileptic seizures possibly induced by the flourescent lights. I changed out both the ballasts and the bulbs and have not heard of any problems since.
There might be other ways to reduce the annoyance of 60Hz flicker, such as angling the desk and reflective framed pictures on the wall, or even placing large plants around the desk. Arrangement of the office can have wonderful effects besides increasing window light. It can really liven up a person at work.
The techno talking babes appear to be very tan. How do they get the time to spend time inside with geeky things, like the endless hours at a computer keyboard?
I would say it may be impossible to rate politically correct or acceptible speech. What was considered offensive speech in the 60's in now considered politically correct. For example, my mom was kicked out of church in 1968 when she marched in the civil rights parades in Southern California. What she did back then was considered very inappropriate and now is considered very commendable. If people had not participated in that civil disobediance back then, there might be many of a darker skin color riding the back of the bus today.
It is dangerous for the government to rate speech, such as what we have on the internet. What may be acceptible now may be the same ten years from now. Limiting what we say can cause disorder and war, not protect our children.
These people who wish to rate our speech on a coercive basis are very dangerous if not greedy.
Imagine what its gonna be like since someone actually DID something against what the church beleives.
The churches will claim its of an evil nature and should be outlawed. No room for science, those simple minds. Mankind tinkering around in the lab creating life, linking DNA strands, or even cloning are not mentioned in the bible, so there's going to be an outcry.
If you were to start your own country, would you really be free?
Would you have everything you need to be self sufficient or will you be depending on world trade? Will all your members be judged non-threatening to countries such as the USA? What happens when you decide to create a little military defense or a few members trade weapons as a hobby, such as a certain group did in Waco, TX? Sooner or later, your group is going to get the attention of a restless NSA and CIA and every other three letter acronym of every major capitolistic and communistic country out there. Your little country will get noticed and be subject to much debate, much of it in the "free press."
Can there ever be such a thing as freedom or world peace?
I couldn't have said it better myself. Before the DOJ sued them, a person *could not* buy a personal computer without MSDOS (or IBM's branding of MSDOS) on it. Now that Microsoft has scortched the earth with its monopoly and we are fighting back, it claims there is competition. Was it fair that all the innovative software startups be pushed out and bought out, leaving Microsoft to aquire the remaining marketshare and patent rights?
What does this teach us? If we lie, cheat, and steal to get our wealth, do we have a right to keep it?
The best way to impliment censorship is at the search engines. Say goodbye to the quality searches at google. Next would be all the usenet news servers. Mandatory filters on what goes in and out. There are big movements in churches for members to act politically and stop anything that might be distasteful. You can bet this is going to squelch free speech. Just say no to censorship!
Most of the imaging rods and cones are concentrated in the center allowing greater detail, so would it make sense that we are used to looking at one thing at a time, and changing focus on different items. I see much greater detail when looking at something directly and might say I process things serially. One thing at a time. This does not seem true when driving for long periods of time when tunnel vision and eye movement seems to be comotose.
ust what we need to fragment the market a little further...another bloody CPU mounting standard.
Just like in the 70's when semiconductor manufacturers were putting out thousands of different kinds of transistors, these CPU's are meeting different needs. More and bigger busses, I/O, control pins, etc. Its just evolution. Sure, it means more of a choice and incompatibilities. Just like millions of transistor types, we now have cross reference manuals to allow subsitutions from a small stock. I'm sure we will soon have a market for cheap CPU adaptors.
Could moderation shape social behavior? Sure. Don't let that scare you. I enjoy playing devil's advocate when I see the whole discussion might be missing something important. When I play an unpopular side, I have to be concise and do my best to entertain the masses with questions.
Not that I would stick up for the Borg assimilating the human population's communication infrastructure, but there are times that a opposing view is needed. It can bring about good discussion and sometimes flames. If an argument is presented in good fashion, I have often seen moderators bump it all the way up in score.
Its not wrong to debate. It cures braindead clique mentality.
Just over two years ago, I first tried Linux with Redhat 4.1 on my new laptop. Used it for about a month and got the feel for how I wanted it to work for me and enjoyed its crashproof nature. Everytime I use Windows, I am often reminded why I switched to Linux.
Seimens makes almost everything when it comes to manufacturing electronics. If you wanted to build an assembly line, they have the controls equipment and can fix you up. Who knows, they might support Linux soon when it comes to programming their fine PLC's. I sure hope so, because I'm getting sick of DOS and Windows when programming industrial controls.
No, I got the same page, yet the IIS scripts claim I have 2.0.32, not one of the 2.2 kernels. Why they don't just write a page and post it with a simple link is befond me. They must have a network of scripts to spin every document that comes out of that place.
Its like they are trying to automate thier PR department by scripting. I'm waiting for someone to come up with a Microsoft PR generator page so anyone can create hype with a spin on the fly.
No, I have found AC posting can be useful except that we now have a bandwidth hijacker gone postal and carpet bombing the posts. Let's say if his identity could be tracked down within a few hundred miles, I might visit the knucklehead or his peers and ask what's up. I would imagine he would be sure to retaliate if he could.
This is like someone showing up at a funeral and spitting on the grave while others who wish to look at the contributions of a person. Its distracting and makes me think about what could make a person so detatched.
I prefer recliners. I also have a waterbed, a couch, and a floor. All provide great resting areas, but a recliner just seems to grab my ass the best. Unfortunately, it can only hold one person at a time, making the bed the most logical choice for nightime.
I remember seeing an eclipse in several years back. All of us at work were ordered outside to see it (my boss was cool.) There was a little light, enough to see, not like a sunset, but like a dim bulb for a sun. Shadows from anything showed up as cresents on the ground. The low light outside everywhere had a mystic look. The world was different that day.
Its trivial for a person to use his/her middle name and people would me most understanding. I feel the need to sue that mother for stupidity and bringing it into this world.

Tried to post a link to a cartoon and get marked down as a troll. What was so wrong with it? Was it that bad?
I might have thought of it differently:
Most of the imaging rods and cones are concentrated in the center allowing greater detail, so would it make sense that we are used to looking at one thing at a time, and changing focus on different items. I see much greater detail when looking at something directly and might say I process things serially. One thing at a time. It seems like almost everything is running Linux these days. If I could just recompile the engine in my car, I'd be set.

Jeez, get a life. Get at least 2.0.38 please.

Anyone have a working mirror of Microsoft's response? Their software seems to not be working.
Nice response to a security problem. It looks like obscurity to me.

..what's wrong with saying 'died'?
:)
His work didn't die, but will be with us forever. Its not "dead," but immortalized.
