How will this work in the open source comunity?. Does any one else here think that M$ is just jumping for joy and calling on their paid senators to intorduce legislation to do away with GNU/GPL software , as it is obviously dangerous to have the source codes of programs availible.
Or do we just write 'backdoor.h' for all new encryption progs?... think about it, this is nonsense.
This must be stopped. Also the test of the proposed new internet bills have little goodies like DNA databases for all felons and sex offenders?.... how does this fight terrorism.
Atty Gen Ashcroft and his ilk are just trying to turn the US into a police state on the backs of the victoms of the Sept 11 trajic events, and spit on the graves of every serviceman that died fighing for 'freedom'
The new White House press conference will no dought look like CLICK HERE TO SEE ----- THIS
Although 28K (pounds) seems expensive for the average citizen, Fujitsu may have an un-tapped market in the city of Chicago if only the robot can be programmed to walk into a polling place and (punch 10) aka vote for Mayor Daley on election day.
The city would no dought buy 1000's..... it really is a much more elegant method than having dead people vote
looks like i need to get to work writing 'backdoor.h' for PGP.
Does this smell of M$ to u?.. it does to me
Why, to think if software like PGP isnt secret and controlled by M$ , then the bad guys wont include 'backdoor.h' in their next compile.
This is an assult on OSS by M$, at a time when everone , especially those who dont understand are greiving for our loss.
We have become a 'banana republic' overnight. Not only were we assulted from without by the terrorists, but we have been assulted from within by those who hate all the inconveinence of our pesky constitution.
The next White House press conference may very well look like THIS
This truely scares me. No words can describe the terrible events of Sept. 11 and there are things that can be and should be doen to improve security like having well paid, well trained FAA people at security checkpoints, and although im loath to say this face recognition software at those bording gates as well.
However, for the Atty General to want to trash the Bill of Rights which is was supposededly sworn to uphold is a far greater threat than any terrorist act.
Think of all the people that fought in previous wars and gave their lives to protect us from random police searches.
This is one of the most fundimental freedoms we have.
Am iI the only one to see Mr Ashcrofts actions as spitting on all the veterens of every war since 1776?
I hope those who cherish freedom can help in this, I for one am going to donate to the EFF.
If we let the FBI (et al) randomly scoure our comunications, then the terrorists have won, and iI am not ready for this.
I do not want to live in a 'banana republic' however if we allow this invasion of our privacy, the next White House news conference may very well look like THIS
It is the web sites designer to includa a robots.txt or meta tag to keep the robots out.
If the site owner wants to sue some one , try the web designer , not the search engines
unless this whole thing is just a scam lawsuit to extort $$$ from the search engines cause no one is buying his pictures

If i put something on the web , i expect people to download it , if i want to have it for sale , i wont put it out where people can get it for free.....

Not having a Windoze machine on my side of our office, i do use staroffice / openoffice.
the functionallity is fine, it is just different than Word or Excel.
For the things i do it works well... except.... it takes forever to load. I mean a l-o-n-g time.
I know my computer is about 2 years old (dual 550 XEON, 256 ram, RH 7.1) but from the time i click the staroffice icon , till i see the screen , i can go get lunch.
Koffice seems to be a nice framework , but still blows up and the filters dont work, but.. i think the K folks have something that looks and feels good. A little dusting and cleaning and Koffice may be more attractive than Staroffice
How profetic seeing as how the new combined company has ditched the PA-RISC and the alpha in favor of the Itanic.
One more thing, the employees of this new 'thing' are now going to be ultra creative seeing as how upper management is deciding who to ditch.
Also , it brings lots of uncertainty to the customers. Just imagine the joy of the IBM sales people at this when going to a large account
While HP/Compaqard Bell is trying to explain the high price of the Itanic/NT license mess as whores to MS/INTEL , IBM will be selling a stable unified system of mainfraims, servers, desktops, and most importainly STABILITY.
All IBM needs now is a laptop running the powerPC and linux to round out it's line.
In the US of A we dont need very elegant encryption for the smart cards. Just ROT13 the PIN and then hen some one makes something to unscramble it, throw him in jail using the DMCA
Where is the http://goatse.cx guy when we need him. This would be a perfect artical for his/her talents

We have been using dry pairs with Netopia SDSL/IDSL routers and toshiba T2N PLC's ( http://www.tic.toshiba.com/plc/html/Products/ ) with ethernet ports to make city wide control networks.
Netopia used to support back to back DSL where 1 router is the clock signal and the other is a slave.
For some un-known reason Netopia has removed this from their FAQ and no says they no longer support it, however as far as i know it still works.
It would also work if for example some kid had cable and a bunch of the old NORTHPOINT routers (which all work back to back DSL ) to go into their own pirate DSL service
The new corperate america, u would think Intel would be giving this away seeing how AMD is kicking their butts and without this optimization the P$ is a slug.

WOW this is great , soon i can put KDE2 and Konqueror on the windoze machines in my office so the 'scared of linux' ladies here can experince all of what they have been missing

yes it is art. When software is the result of some ones ideas , and it is loveingly put together it is art , and most probably very good.
When software is made by a team apporach , it is engineering , and although it may be edible , it cannot be great.
I have seen this over an over, just because software can be made as engineering doesnt make it great.
