Are we so wrapped up in TV and pop culture that we have to live and die by the TV? Will it be the end of my life if I miss the latest episode?
Really I think the bigger picture here is, Are we wasting are lives with the tube? Honestly, don't we have better things todo?
Join a gym, hockey legaue, basketball leagues, futbol(soccer?) league....
Go to a bar and have a drink...
Spend some quality time with your gal (guy??)...
The point is, TV may be fun and all, but it's
such a waste when you could be spending that time with friends and loved ones.
Dumb shit. Like most repliers on/. you didn't even bother to read my fucking response...just glanced and formed a half assed opinion. I send MSword docs. I've sent my resume out on my box (through Staroffice) as MSWord docs. I'm just saying to the first asshole who posted that I'm not going to drive to Kinko's and spend $10 to get my doc converted if there is and issue. I'm going to send as is and if the other end has a problem I'll try again in a different format and if I can't read the other end's document I'll request a different format. Plain and simple. Two humans working out issues.
Next time read the post and form an intelligent comeback, until then make sure you pop the pubescent zit on your forhead and don't miss home room.
Okay, so I've invested $500 -$ 2500 (name your price) on my computer for my convience. So now you're telling me I've got to prepare my docs, find suitable media to put my docs on, and drive to my local kinko's to spend money to convert. What the hell did I buy a computer for?
Now be it that I get a handful of word docs and Star Office does a good job to make them readable. I've only got two docs which SO couldn't handle and I promptly let the sender know I couldn't read the doc and if was import to resend the doc as text or some other format. No complaints on either end with such a simple request.
(un)fortuneately i've only known 4 current/former
M$ software people. Hands down, two shouldn't have been in the field and probably worked there way into management by now and two were brilliant. The brilliant people no longer work for MS, both by choice.
It's a shame that we all have to wait for 'issues to be resolved...' before using an 'new' OS, driver, or application. Common phrases heard in a real environment. (real as in work/production, not home desktop or hack machine) "We're not upgrading until SP3 is available." "We advise you not upgrade to RedHat 7.0 , "Please wait atleast until redhat 7.1 is available." , etc..
As maybe your atypical programmer, I take great care in my programming. If my name is going to be assoiciated with it, I'm not realeasing shit code. I work and have worked with programmers that knowingly code flawed code and rely on QA catching the problem to buy some time. How can someone do that? Turns my stomach. So what happens if you've got a careless programmer and careless QA? Big known bug-a-boo slips out the door.
All I really would like to say is take pride in your work. Be careful and don't realease shit code. No, I don't write bug free code. Yes, I have missed deadlines, but only by days, not weeks/months. No I've never gotten slack from missing a deadline b/c I spend less time in post support. I'd rather deal with issues up front while it's fresh in the head than to fuck with code several months after the fact.
Yes. It's a MOVIE.
So was "Independence Day" when Jeff Goldblum tapped the alien systems on his Mac.
So was "Pearl Harbnor" when not a single character smoked a cigarette.
So was "Dogma" when the world found out that Allanis Morisette is God.
...
Sheesh, where was this book when I needed it.

Simple business concepts working on the effect of the dismal economy. Great book marketing.
Really though. Isn't this pretty much common sense that everyone should be aware (geeks and suits alike) Unfortunately is so American to get caught up in the trend and the trend the past couple years was venture funding ridiculous ideas. Thank goodness that's over. As George Carlin once said. "We americans are known for two things. Taking a good idea and running it into the ground and taking a bad idea and running it into the ground.
I'd venture a guess if I actually read this book, it would provide the information found in any 300 level marketing class but written in the the style of the "Dummies" book series.
Still, it'd probably a good read since most geeks could give two shits about the sales and marketing side. You must realize though it's always going to be a team effort. We can't live without eachother so we might as well understand eachother and get along.
I'm thouroughly impressed by fellow sales and marketing folk who share the details of their jobs as we (the geeks) explain the systems that run the show under the sheets.
Does anybody have a problem using the pre-born to extend the lives of the elderly?
Elderly?? While it too late for my father, uncle, and my good friend's mother (three quick examples) all who were in their 40's, it'd still be wonderful to find more benefits and/or cures related to pre-natal stem cell efforts so the 10 yr olds of today don't have to go through the same misery myself and friends have had to go through.
Yeah, you're damn right it's worth it. For the elderly, of course, but more for our parents, ourselves, and friends.
It's good to see the/. community discussing social issues.
First, who hasn't been picked on in high school?
I remember both getting picking and dishing it out. Why the fuck are kids such god damn pussies today that they can't take a little pushing around. Toughen up for crying out loud. Hit someone with your fist. A good old fashion fight might get you a day out of school or some detention, but at least the fucking trouble maker
going to layoff b/c you fought back.
Second, Sean is a dumb ass. With all the whoop about the 'troubles' in school, why would you even joke about that shit. It's the same spiel as walking through security at the airport and joking about a bomb. What kind of brainless act is this?
Third. Y'all got facts from Sean's father, who himself got his information second hand. Now, I'm not going to pass judgement either way because I don't know the gentleman. TAKE THIS WITH A GRAIN OF SALT: He could making shit up. Sean could be making shit up, and his father unknowingly passing the mis-information on. Then again, they both could be telling the truth. Who knows, but as always, guilty until proven innocent here. But of course the typical mental midgets of slashdot are all up in arms. Stalking other innocent people at this school, postintg email addresses; pretty much making lives miserable for many people who did have a damn thing to do with the decesion to give Sean the boot from school. Basically you doing the same thing to those irrelevant people as the bullies did to sean.
You see 'child porn', but you totally ignore 'CDA'. There is a relevance. Please open your eyes and your mind and then you'll see the connection. Until then, enjoy the darkness you live in. Have a nice day.:)

Nah, you get fast women too.

Yeah, but aren't the products *nix "rip off" from M$ just products M$ ripped off (stole, bought)
So in essence, all is fair in love and war.

Ah, joy, another wasted carbon life form.
