Sorry about my wording. I KNOW you can't put a backlight in without surgery. I meant that you can add a light later, but even if you did, the glare would be pretty gross. The solution, I think, is to round up some small, white, cellphone LED's and plant them around the display, underneath it. Shouldn't suck battery life TOO badly, but I wonder what it would do to the colour though.
ARM says the ARM7 series of processors start out spec'd at 60 Mhz. It is right on the site. If what you're saying is (and I want to believe it), then that means that the CPU has been underclocked which means that there is some serious overclocking business that needs to be taken care of to get this puppy back up to 60, which really isn't an overclock because that is what the CPU is base spec'd at. Shoot, I'm confused.
Can someone fire me a link that will say specifically 16.78 Mhz? The only one I have found is directly from ARM and they say 60 Mhz for the ARM7's.
Nope. It is made by the UK based ARM. Check it out front and center:
http://www.arm.com
As for the 16.78 Mhz bit, I'm still confused because ARM themselves say that the CPU's (ALL the ARM7's) start out at 60 Mhz. I would really like to believe totally that it is 16.78 Mhz because it would give me an excuse to find out how to overclock it back to its factory spec speed!
You're right. My bad. I checked around a little more. I was given the 256 number by someone and assumed it was 256 megs, though I don't see why they couldn't do it seeing that these little USB Thumbdrive products that have been popping up as of late, have capacities up to 512 megs of storage capcity. Cool idea about the MP3 Player though.
Would you like a picture of the back cover? I have it. I only took it off to show people where the batteries sit. And no, this is NOT a display model ripped from the supermarket, or Walmart, or whatever. We worked very hard to get this unit from Nintendo for this Canadian exclusive. And besides, we have the BOX and the packaging, and the waybill from Nintendo.
My Bad. I had access to the gamegear and that turbografx thingy when I was young. Guess I mixed it up a little in my old age. FYI, there was a Gameboy released in Japan that had a backlight, but I hear it sucked batteries like crazy. I'd be interested in seeing one modded with blue LED's like the ones used on Cellphones. That would be pretty sweet!
You know what? When I finally get one (and you KNOW I'm going to get one!) I'll take it to a cellphone mod place and see if they can add blue LED's too it. That's would be Sweet! I doubt those little LED's would suck up very much power. Afterall, they are used in Cellphones with piddly battery life. Not sure about that blue tinge though, but it IS better than the glare that may be generated by external units.
Actually, the wimpy processor this time has a clock speed between 60 - 75 Mhz. That is what this processor is specced at. It is made by ARM in the UK, NOT Intel, yet they are both RISC based and hence the initial mix up in the article. My Bad.
Hey Guys,
Made a boo boo.
Yes it IS an ARM processor, but not an INTEL one. It is made by a British Company CALLED ARM. You can find them at: www.arm.com
They compete with INTEL in the same space with this CPU. It is RISC based too hence the confusion.
Sorry.
Well, as happy as we were to be Slashdotted, our ISP wasn't. We've moved servers and will be available via this IP address for at least a few days until the domain changes over. Here it is:

The Cartridges are specced to hold up to 256 Megs of Data. Could be some possibilities there.

Sorry about that. I had access to Gamegear and that TurboGrafx doodad when I was young as well. I must have mixed it up in my old age ;-)

Hey Thanks! Too bad Slashdot never posted my original article when I sent it to them.
