Strange, I am a British citizen and know full well what I am and you tell me I am wrong. I was looking at my passport while I wrote my comment. Where do you get your fancifull ideas from, obviously not from anywhere worth reading. Maybe you should put down your Sesame Book of the World and get out and meet some real people.
America has for a long time had a hang up with ID. When in the US people always asked to see my driving license and did not know how to react when they saw that my driving license does not have a photo. Every form there asks for a social security number and so I put my UK version which includes letters:) In Europe I have never been asked for ID in a supermarket like I was in the US and a British policeman cannot expect ID like they do in the US. I think that both extremes are faulty and at least with this compromise the UK may end up with a sensible result. This is something that the US could learn from but I doubt that they will.
??? I am a British citizen, and this proposed act only applied to British citizens. It is only people without a UK passport to read that think that we are subject to someone. Britain no longer has an empire and apart from a few islands most of the subjects have been given independence from the UK. Those that are still subject to British rule were not covered by this proposed act of Parliment. If someone is a British national they are a British citizen.
I do not even think that Linux is a great step forward as Battlefield Simulation has been done on Sparcs for over a decade. The British system used in Bosnia could accept map data for anywhere and test a battlefield of up to 8 different enemy armies (war are not always just between just 2 sides).
When I worked on this, the problem was that map data was of countries and wars are often on borders. The world, as we know is not flat like a map, and the errors between 2 sets of map data will occur at the borders... The story quoted is about a very basic sim and not one of any real interest. We had to work on problems like a hedge is difficult to see through at a distance but easy to see through when you are close to it.
or a kid with a radio controlled plane that has a very sharp nosecone:) I will start making one now... I used to have some really cool rockets that had sharp noses:) wow, I am having so many ideas now you have got me started:) Growing old is mandatory but growing up is optional:)
" It's cute, tiny, and plastic. The kids love it "
Only if they hate their parents as there is no where for them to get into this 2 seater so they cannot go out with mum and dad anymore. This is not a family car so kids are not a part of the picture. This is for stupid young idiots who like to look 'different' and end up all looking the same because they all go around in the latest fashion. If you want an economical family car get a diesel VW Passat estate which is several times bigger and just as economic (as well as a lot safer).
You say that and then you will probably vote for an anti Europe party at the next election and wonder why it is only Britain that gets it. Blair has spent his whole time bent over and lifting his shirt tails for Bush so I doubt that it would take as long as you say but it is unlikely to get into Europe although it is bound to get talked about and they will make nice noises. Holland would never allow it no matter what and neither would several others so it would be unlikely to get debated.
You are lucky, I only just got around to buying 9.1 and have not had time to install it. Now I am not sure if I will use 9.1 (I have 9) or wait until 9.2... I feel that I want a refund:(
I think Evolution is better than Outlook because it has all the benefits of Outlook without the drawbacks. I do not agree that it is an 'Excellent' email client although I do think that it could be. I think it is far to vulnerable to abuse to be 'excellent'. SuSE (read Novell if you want) are also dedicated to enterprise systems so I doubt that Evolution will wait in the wings.
Although I agree with your general sentiment, is your 'download and try' that far removed from the guy that buys a piece of shrink wrapped software only to find it does not do what he wants and he cannot take it back. OK, I agree that he does not buy 25+ copies (unless he is more wealthy than he is intelligent) but to a lesser degree, this is the other side of what you represent.
If you want someone to decide for you what you want and how you should use a computer then stick with M$. Linux allows you to chose what you want to do with your computer and how you want to do it. You can stick with a mainstream distro like Red Hat or SuSE if you like or get one that is more to your taste if you want to look deeper. The choice is yours or not as you wish.
Eeerrrr, if they really wanted to do something about it why not change the way the write software so that it is not so easy for outsiders to hack into their products and dump unwanted code onto their clients machines? This would efectively cut down on virii as well as spyware, trojans etc... Why do they chose to leave so many doors open? I believe it is because they are more concerned with leaving the doors open for themselves than they are worried about the effect of the abuse of those doors. Why does a Windows users email need the power to format their hard disk etc?
I plan to fill all volcano craters with empty MacDonalds packets so that when a volcano starts to get hot the package melts and blocks the crater with molten plastic!!!
Or maybe the hurricanes are mother Earth's way of sucking up all that ozone from car exhausts etc. and sending up into the ozone layer... OK, maybe not
but the story ignores all those that buy a good quality PC with a copy of Windows and install Linux. M$ do not refund the license fee to those that do not want Windows so how is there action any different from those that they complain about? It just seems like kharma to me. They rip people off and then some people rip them off... who really cares?
You are talking about my field and I know that the US has more cameras watching their people than any European country. I worked with the FBI and know that when we worked on any case they were able to produce more footage than any one involved with any other case. When you see film of crimes on TV it seems to matter to you that the camera was not mounted on a corner as if that makes a difference. They are everywhere and at least in Europe the states are honest about their presence.
But in Russia they can go down the market and get the full version with the latest patches for a few rubbles. As the version supplied is hamstrung they will have no choice but M$ will still bitch about the sales of 'pirate' software...
Thank god I do not live in the US (or Oz in this case). I do not know how people can put up with all this corporate bully boy tactics. I would want them to take me to court so that I could counter sue at their expense.
In some countries it is illegal to gain access to a computer without the owners permittion. It is a real no no to actually change anything as the media call that 'Hacking' (yes I do know the meaning of that word here). 'Adware' often does this and is therefore illegal in many places. I think that it should be illegal everywhere for the same reason. I do not like anyone messing with my machine and I do not see what right they have to do so. It is no different from tresspassing.

I happen to know another western country

In general, dead people do not think...

Maybe they have staff to call for help as one would expect to be the case in the event of no-one having a mobile phone...
I may not be without sin but can I throw the first stone ???
