CSS didn't exist? Are you kidding me? You do realize that the very first Firefox (Phoenix) release was a year after Internet Explorer 6 was release right? Even then it had more comprehensive support for CSS than Internet Explorer 6 and still supports more CSS3 than Internet Explorer 7 does now! I mean this wasn't web browsing circa 1996, this was a year after IE6 which is still the most widely used to this day.
Because the court decided the price of the book was the total cost to the customer after the book cost itself AND ground shipping were taken into account. So if the book is $7.99 and ground shipping is $2, then the total cost to the customer is $9.99. By Amazon not charging the customer that $2 they have, in the eyes of the court, discounted the book by 20%.
IMO, it sounds like the court went out of their way to find a definition that would allow them to bully an American company in order to protect French book sellers.
ROFL. Yeah no need for all of that complicated electrical tape business. Just hook into the serial port on the back of the screen and send commands to the LCD to lock the IR port. And thank you to the mods who modded the parent "Informative" To think of all the time I would have wasted with electrical tape if this "informative" post wasn't pointed out to me!
How did he get caught? Are you kidding me? He posted a video of himself doing it, proudly stating his first and last name in the intro to give himself credit.
Gmail already supports "something as basic as folders". Simply label the e-mail, click archive, and it is in a folder. The only difference is you can have one e-mail be in multiple folders at the same time. By default when you "move" an e-mail into a folder/label Gmail allows you to continue to see that e-mail in your Inbox as well as in that folder/label. If you click archive then you will only see it in that folder/label.
Your only legitimate gripe is that Gmail doesn't allow you to have the e-mail be archived by default after you apply a folder/label to it -- that way it would feel more like it's being "moved". Either way you have the same result, just a little more flexibility in being able to have an e-mail in more than one folder at once.
Okay chief. Give me a call when charges are brought against Microsoft, its CEO, OR any of its board members "as private citizens." What a joke.
"Try to install remotely, illegally something on a Microsoft owned computer...[blah blah blah blah blah]"
That's got to be one of the most asinine, ignorant comparisons I've ever heard. Did Microsoft agree to a EULA with you?
2.3 Internet-Based Services Components. The Software contains components that enable and facilitate the use of certain Internet-based services. You acknowledge and agree that Microsoft may automatically check the version of the Software and/or its components that you are utilizing and may provide upgrades or fixes to the Software that will be automatically downloaded to your Workstation Computer.
You know there is a lot of gross stuff all over the place. But people have kick ass immune systems in place that destroys all of this gross stuff before we are even remotely affected by it (physically anyways...). Sure, occationally there is a strain of bateria or virus that manages to get through, but once our bodies kick its ass that particular strain will never affect us again!
Excluding some extreme exceptions or maybe the occational flu, sexual activity or "unnatural" transfers of blood are about the only dangers as far as gross stuff is concerned. And even then, if our sexual partner or persons giving blood are healthy we are fine.
Anti-bacterial soap, laytex gloves, and shrink wrapped products didn't exist thousands of years ago. Yet humans didn't become extinct. And do you really want to sit here and tell me you know what goes on with sweaty, overworked factory workers and your allmighty "factory fresh" products? There's something to give your OCD to think about. lol
The world is gross, other people are gross, we are gross. Animals (including humans) have evoled around this fact and developed some pretty kick ass immune systems. So get over it!
If I'm not mistaken "Netscape" 8 actually uses IE's rendering engine by default! I guess it's better than nothing but it is no different than providing IE or some other IE shell.
NeoOffice/J is not a Java application. Its use of Java is a hack to allow native OSX toolbars and such (e.g. the "File Edit..." not attached to the window). I believe it also uses Java as a way around the need for an X server. However, in and of itself, NeoOffice/J is not a Java application -- it is a natively compiled C++ program that at times piggybacks some of Java's features as an quick hack into some of OSX's features.
While I happen to agree with most of the comments above that refer to you as an asshole. And I hope I'm not being too ironic when I say this, but--why in the world would you ever post an article to slashdot or damn near any other forum if you don't want to get nit-picked to death. That's just kinda what people on forums do in my experience. They will rip your 10 paragraph post down, sentence-by-sentence, and nit-pick at the slightest error.
Maybe I'm not quite getting something here, but how are they not "allowed" to not give you something? Even the case with Microsoft.. They are a private company. They could not send you copies of their property for any reason they want (so long as it isn't because or your race, gender, religion, etc...). "I don't like your shoes. I am not going to send you any more copies of my property." or "You sold my property before I wanted you to. I am not going to send you any more copies of my property." You are saying that an entity is not "allowed" to do such a thing?
One more thing to add to that, the v710 is currently "only" $200 if you have had your current phone on the account for 22 months (e.g. eligable for an upgrade) or if you are opening a new line with that phone.
Well whether or not you think those features are necessary, I'm just trying to answer your question as to why the phone is $400. This is another option.
"Oh and why is it again its gonna cost me 4 bills for a phone with bluetooth that marginally works with my car?"
The Motorola v710 isn't the only bluetooth phone on Verizon and on top of bluetooth it has an MP3 player, memory card slot, huge TFT screen with equally large resolution -- inside and out, and pretty much every feature you could imagine having on a cell phone that isn't a PDA phone. That is what you're paying $400 for. There are cheaper bluetooth phones.
What type of phone do you have? One of the things people tend to not realize is the fact that the brand and model of phone you have can drastically affect your reception. Make sure you are using a tri-mode phone, and stick with Samsung and Motorola on Verizon -- Samsung and Sanyo on Sprint. If you're using a free Nokia or Kyrocera or something then you got what you paid for heh.
Relative to hard drive space it wouldn't normally be considered huge. Relative to bandwidth, especially with multiple PCs downloading it across a network, this can indeed be "huge".
So let me get this straight: It takes some time for a particular bug to get noticed, once it is noticed some observations are made as to what could possibly be causing the issue, and with the next version of the app the issue is corrected. That is what is bothering you so much??
Would you rather it be:
"
"OMG IE isn't rendering this markup correctly."
"It's a condition in IE that is fixed in the Foghorn branch of Windows that will be released in Q1 of 2010. Just find a different way of coding your site in the meantime."

ahAHAHAHAHAhahahAHAHAHAHAHAH oh god. How fucking melodramatic could you possibly be? Not to mention out of touch with reality.
They said Linux is irrelevant to business customers because it's a closed system that doesn't allow you to install custom applications on it?
Uh, no, they didn't. Not even close. Seriously.
J-Script is Microsoft's "embrace and extend" version of JavaScript. In short, yeah, it's JavaScript with Microsoft quarks.

Would you stop peddling that freaking URL. It's almost on the verge of spam.

following a clandestine meeting with Ford about a dubiously independent TCO study; a study that has since been rejected by General Motors.
is that 42% of all statistics are completely made up on the spot.

I'm really not sure who pronounces "GIGAbyte" as "jigabyte".
