I've been looking for a good inexpensive X server in Windows for a while now and none satisfied me.
I just downloaded the demo of this one and so far it looks very promising. Very cool.

For instance, 2010 covers Floyd's preparation for the trip to Jupiter, and the impending separation from his family, in great detail, with the actual journey being skipped almost entirely.

The idea is that the watermark is encoded in "noise" frequencies in the sound data, so that it can't be discerned by the human ear, but, with the proper decoder, provides information.
Well lossy compression formats like mp3 are supposed to remove any information not relevant to the human ear, therefore one could assume that any attempt to introduce additional information in a stream encoded trough such a codec must result in an audible alteration of the audio.
But since I know very little about audio encoding, I'd like to know if the above is actually provable. If it is, SDMI stands no chance of actually succeding.
Some time ago, this slashdot interview was posted in which we were given the oportunity to ask some questionst to a guy from the NSA. It looks like the answers to the questions were never posted. What happened? Did I miss the followup?

Alfred Nobel was born in 1833 in Stockholm, Sweden to a family of engineers. His family was descended from Olof Rudbeck, the best-known technical genius of Sweden's 17th century era as a great power in northern Europe. At age 9, he moved with his family to Russia where he and his brothers were given first class education in the humanities and natural sciences by private teachers.
Nobel invented dynamite in 1866 and later built up companies and laboratories in more than 20 countries all over the world. A holder of more than 350 patents, he also wrote poetry and drama and even seriously considered becoming a writer.
The idea of giving away his fortune was no passing fancy for Nobel. Efforts to promote peace were close to his heart and he derived intellectual pleasure from literature, while science built the foundation for his own activities as a technological researcher and inventor.
On November 27, 1895, Nobel signed his final will and testament at the Swedish-Norwegian Club in Paris. He died of a heart attack in his home in San Remo, Italy on December 10, 1896.
I'm sorry, I really should have backed up my statements trough links, but I didn't have any at hand.
I live in Switzerland, so I haven't been directly concerned by the censoring, but since I read a couple of german game magazines I have repeatedly heard about it.
The only relevant link I could dig up from my bookmarks is the web site of the government organization which does the "filtering". It's called Bundesprüfstelle für jugendgefährdende Schriften" (more or less meaning: federal investigation agency for youth-endangering writings).
I have seen the german version of Half-Life however, and what I wrote is definitely true. In addition to this, I think most of the iD games have been "indiziert" (german word, which basically means censored, or at least no advertising or selling in places accessible by minors).
Maybe someone from Germany would like to comment on this?
PS: While I was writing this, I also checked out some links trough Google. Here's a justification for the censoring of iD Software's Doom (in german).
... But not nearly as bad: In Germany, games which are deemed too violent are routinely subjected to modifications in order to be allowed to advertise and sell them in places accessible by minors.
A very funny example was Half-Life, in which the marines were replaced by some sort of combat droids which would spill motor oil instead of blood. Note that the gameplay doesn't change at all, you're still butchering like crazy...
Here. Altough it's not nearly as nasty as some people would make it appear.
If you want the unedited version of what went on in #forum and a couple of other channels, I put my irc logs up here (have a look at the trollish/quit messages in forum, they're just too funny).
Well but that's precisely the kind of questions which should go into the FAQ, no? I think overall the Q&A was ontopic and quite a success.
As for the other kind of questions (complaints, etc.). There is a serious need for improved communication between the/. crew and us readers/comment posters. Much of the distrust and general flames stem from this imho.
That's why I asked the following question...
<Questions> frenetik asks: I think the reason alot of people have conspiracy theories or are generally angry at/. is because there's not enough meta-discussion about the site. Now I can understand his statement since slashdot is all he does all day long. Me, I'm not fanatic enough to download and read the code or to learn how moderation works in all it's glory. However, when something like bitchslapping seems to appear out of nowhere, I get suspicious.
Also, there have been quite a few changes which should have been announced but weren't, like the karma-cap. Of course such stuff shouldn't appear on the front-page, and naturally I don't expect Taco to scour heaps and heaps of comments each day to make me happy. But something like an "inside slashdot" section or some sort of a changelog would be nice. (No, slashcode.com doesn't do it for me yet since afaik they're not fully synchronized). More Lego stories would be fine btw.
Now, on to the meat of my comment. ASCII is not acceptable as evidence in a court of law, and I hope the slashdotters won't accept it either. I could have written that entire log myself. Mind you, I didn't.
Another version is available on kuroshin. Now I have no idea how many people have access to this server, but if I were rusty I wouldn't want to tarnish my domain's reputation by posting a fake.

Since we both agree that they are just a search engine, and linking to illegal material hasn't (yet?) been outlawed, wouldn't this actually make it look good?
Like: No Mr. RIAA We're only providing those links for inormative purposes, and besides we clearly state that they are illegal.
